It's obvious to always go with the latest technology....go with the Ti4800SE if you can, I dunno the price difference, so that might make your decision is the price. You also might want to wait on the GeForce FX 5600 Ultra? (I think they will be about $179)

How much you looking to spend? If you have the cash, get a 5800 or 5800Ultra. If not, I'd wait to see what Gainward has coming for their 5600Ultra, they likely will ship with a decent OC pretty much assured along with faster RAM then the rest.

Aah, the beauty of marketing.
The 4800 offers nothing over the 4600 in terms of performance, and I think the 4800SE is the 8x AGP version of the Ti 4400, thus not being the top technology.

But, go with ATi :p

It looks like the 4600 and 4800 for the most part are priced about the same. The 4600 being faster but lacking 8x.......Hmmmm...decisions, decisions

lol

there is no thinking required, if the ti4600 is faster than the ti4800, whats that saying about the usefulness of APG8X?

Thanks,
I'd like to keep it around $200.00 or so. I'll look into the 5600 or 5800...

IMHO if you want to stay with Nvidia you should wait for the FX 5600 Ultra card,at least it`ll be a DX9 card and have better AA/AF performance over the GF4 models you listed..

:)

I am considering upgrading my Ti4400 with an FX 5800 non-ultra. It should be out very soon if you can wait. It would definately be work the wait if you like playing games with FSAA and AF enabled.

Ketchup, may I just ask WHY you are making that upgrade?
5800 non-ultra Vs 9700PRO
Price = same
normal speed = about same
AA/AF speed = 9700 winnar
The 9700pro is the better card and same price, why get a 5800?
Plus, the cooler on the 5800 will probably be louder, even if not that much louder.
Plus, regular driver updates with ATi.

Screw the crap driver argument, I went from 42.86 to 30.82 and they were pretty equal. "Upgrade" to 43.45, and lo and behold, really jerky performance in games. Yeah, go nVidia.

Sorry, I just want a 9700 pro and have a Ti 4400, so I would like other people to do the same, cos it's what I would do ;)

I am sorry for those on you who don't like nVidia. I do and will continue to use their products, because I feel they have better drivers and better compatibilty than any other video card manufacturer. I have not seen any comments on the cooling solution for the 5800, so it is uncertain whether it will be louder or not. Right now, it really depends on who you listen to as to which card is faster. Some sites would like you to believe the 9700 is faster, and some want you to believe they are about the same. Either way, I will still go with nVidia. The Dets also have an option I really like called Digital Vibrance Control. Now that I am used to it, I don't think I could go to a card that didn't have it.

Get over it ketchup! People don't not like nVidia they just prefer ATI, specifically the price/performance that the 9700 cards offer over The GF4 Ti line (and the FX's as well).

XRdirtHead If I were you I'd look to get a Ti4200 or Ti4400 at a good price (<$140 for sure). They are the best deal out there right now IMO. That Gainward Ti4800 is probably nice, but at $200 it's WAY overpriced. AGP 8X is all marketing right now, for the Ti lineup anyways.

I actually prefer Nvidia over ATi but that`s my opinion ,in the end it`s his money his choice.

I never had any problems with the 43.45 drivers(on two PCs at the moment, different cards as well),I presume you did remove the old ones first.
Guys you should let people buy what they want,if they want to buy Nvidia fine,if they want to buy ATi fine, even if they want a S3 Virge card great ;).
:)

I wouldn't buy a 4800 if it's more money... the only difference is AGP 8X and obviously no one cares about that cause it's useless on a Ti4600 board. I personally wouldn't buy that card at this point in time.. it's getting out of date, fast.
