Don't bother. Just wipe the current rig and install Win 8.1 on that.

You're reading something wrong..and why would you want to mess with Win 8.1?
Absolutely the K sku will clock much higher.

Why wouldn't you want 8.1? You install classic shell and you have the same UI interface as windows 7 and a much better, faster OS with full DX 11.1/11.2 support.
