What mobo, case and PS for an upgrade?

I have a old 486-66 case with 250 watt ps that now houses an ASUS P5A-B with a 450 MHZ AMD K6-3+.

If I upgrade the mobo and CPU:

1) what case and PS would you recommend?
2) what mobo?

I'd probably get an AMD that is 900-1000. The PC is for the kids to do homework, internet access, and some games (Rogue Squadron, etc).

I built MY new PC (see sig) and used an Antec 635 and 8KHA+; I love it. Just wonderd if a cheaper case and PS would work.

The 8KHA+'s were only $99 last time I looked. You won't find a whole lot cheaper than that, and it'll give you upgradeability. Besides, if you like the board, stick with it.

As for case/PSU, just go to a local store and see if you can get a case without a PSU. Then grab a 300-350W Enermax, Antec, or PC Power & Cooling PSU. Those are the three brands I've heard the best stuff about. Or you could always get something nicer and upgrade your own computer and bump your stuff down.

I would just stick with the Antec case/PSU packages. You already said that you like them, and they're really an unbeatable deal for the quality. You could save maybe $40 and get an Enlight combo, if your budget is really tight. But don't buy the case and PSU separately - even if you can find decent quality parts locally (avoiding shipping), you'll pay just as much as you would for an Antec combo, and more than the Enlight. Last I checked, a 300W Antec was $40 at my Best Buy - add even a crappy $40 case and you're better off with the combo.

For the mobo, you could use the ECS K7S5A - I like it, though some don't. But it's definitely cheap and the onboard sound is probably adequate for your purposes. Otherwise, stick with the Epox.

PS: I would keep the Voodoo 4500 card. I have 256 RAM which must be SDRAM type. Is that worth re using?

What boards would support it?
