What memory should I use?

I have the Asus A8N-SLI Premium and according to www.corsair.com......

The most popular is:
TWINX2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / 2-3-3-6

Lowest Latency:
TWINX2048-3500LLPRO / DDR-434 (XMS-3500LL) / 2-3-2-6

Most Affordable:
VS2GBKIT400C3 / DDR-400 (PC-3200) / 3-3-3-8

XPERT - Configurable On-Module LED Display:
TWINXP2048-3200C2 / DDR-400 (PC-3200) / 3-3-3-8


What I have right now is some Corsair CMS1024-3200C2 running at 216 MHz according to some CPU-Z utility that I have in my pc. My memory specs are PC3200 at 400 MHz.

Now according to the motherboard that I have it says that it supports up to PC3200 then how some people in here can use PC3500 and above with this mobo?

Please fill me in im lost.

It's all about OC. Your ram is now running at 432 MHz (2 x 216) The MB you have only officially supports PC3200 but as you can see you are already running above that. Check out the OC threads.

If you want to overclock, it is better that you buy faster memory, not ddr 400, get something like ddr 500, which is not even that expensive now days.

Your motherboard will support the ddr500. You could just call asus motherboard support and ask them!

The memory you are using is fine ..... if you can run it at 216 it is pretty decent PC3200 ram.
People buy faster ram in order to run the memory 1:1 and avoid memory dividers.
In order to better answer your question we need to know if you plan to overclock and then at what speed will you run the HTT at.

When I check my system specs I shows my cpu running at 1.94 Ghz and my memory speed at 216 MHz. This increased one day without me having to do anything coz BELIEVE ME I don't know anything about overclocking so I don't know how my memory is running at 216 instead of 200.

Since I've been reading a lot of your posts and noticing how overclockable the opteron 165 is, some of yur readings are reaching 2.7 and above but since im not overclocker by nature I'll be happy enough with 2.2 or 2.4 or 2.5 nothing too extreme.

I guess Auto Overclocking is enabled by default on your board.
Your CPU is originally supposed to be 200HTT X 9 = 1.8GHz
It is currently running at 216HTT X 9 = 1.94 GHz

Read the Sticky in the CPU thread to gain an understanding how to do this. It's long but it's good.

Zebo's A64 OC Thread

I personally think DDR 500-DDR 550 is the sweet spot for A64s even if timings are a little loose. Go for a 2GB kit that can run at DDR 500 (PC4000) with moderate timings (3-4-4-8). Only the first number, the CAS latency, is really important - don't bother paying much of a premium for, e.g. 3-3-3-8 or 3-3-2-8 or something like that. If it's priced similarly, go for it. But don't pay a premium for it. Instead, look at things like manufacturer warranties, reputation etc.

Corsair is a great manufacturer and a great place to buy memory from!

Of course I'll be choosing corsair memory. I used to like Crucial way back then but now Corsair is the best. By the way you think my mob will be able to recognize the DDR 500 as soon as i plug them in? I'm afraid coz i don't wanna spend 100+ and have a compability problem.
