I have one of these on the way to me now. I don't have any extra $$$ to get DDR memory right now, but I do have a 512MB PC133 stick here that I got from Mushkin last year when they had a sale on them ($110 got me two of these sticks!).

Has anyone tried a 512MB module in this board??? PC133? DDR???

Thanks! :)

All you can do is try it. I haven't read any other threads on 512 of pc133 being a problem but goodluck anyway:)

I would use just one of the sticks though...2 sticks of the pc133 have seemed to cause problems has the board seems to have some power issues with multiple occupancy in the sdram dimm slots...I haven't heard of any issues with the ddr slots, and if the power supply is of decent to top quality...

I put a stick of 512 crucial pc133 in my kid's k7sa5 and it works fine. I don't want to upset Shiori, but I would suggest you stick with crucial, micron, or mushkin for that board. Just stick it in and find out for yourself. It ain't gonna blow up or anything.

Cool. With any luck, I won't have any problems. I am running an Antec 300w power supply, so hopefully that will give the board all the power it needs to be stable.

One thing I did notice. When I ran the 512mb module on one of my MSI boards, I had to set the timings manually instead of using SPD detection. I'm guessing it will be the same with this board, correct?

Thanks guys! :D

Watch out - as long as you're running a single DIMM, you should be fine. Putting both in might give you a fit, though. I'm running an antec, just like you, except that mine is the PP352x - a 350 watt power supply. Even with the extra power, I apparently wasn't getting enough juice to the ram slots to effectively run w/both full. It would crash, sooner or later, every time I booted up. Pulled out one stick, and I've been runing fine ever since.

I ordered my board last Friday so I should get it soon. I will be putting the board in an Antec SX1240 with the 400w Antec power supply. Will I have problems using 1 stick of MicronPC 256MB PC133 and 1 stick of Kingston 128MB PC133?

I have two K7S5A systems and have used CompUSA (PNY) 256 MB & 128 MB PC133's w/ Kingston Valueram 256 MB and 128 MB PC133's in all possible combinations without a problem and with all timings for performance (Ultra /2T/6T/3T).

One of these is in a CompUSA 300 W ATX case (only 150 W on 3.3 & 5 V circuits) while the other is in an Antec SX830 (303X power supply).

Well, my board should be here today or tomorrow. I will try the ram and let everyone know if it works without any problems. It's just a single 512MB Mushkin PC133 module. Just in case, I also have a backup 256MB stick. It's generic ram from one of my customers (UpgradePlanet.com), but if it gets me going that will have to do for now!

Mattser: Word of warning-your Antec power supply is AMD approved only up to the Duron 950. That said, I'm using one without any problems since August in my daughter's 1.1 or 1.2 (I forget) T-Bird (two sticks Crucial DDR memory). YMMV, but if you have problems I would look at the powersupply first and then the memory.

Well, I got everything put together last night (outside of the case) and loaded Windows 2000. Everything runs blazingly fast! :D As it is configured now:

Athlon 1Ghz
512mb Mushkin PC133
40GB Maxtor HD
Toshiba 12x DVD drive
ATI AIW Radeon
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Antec 300w (PP-303x) power supply

So far so good. I just have to transfer all of the parts into the case and move everything back to the entertainment center.
I will be looking into getting an Enermax 350 "Whisper" power supply sometime soon, unless someone else has a better recommendation.

Hope this board lasts for me! *crosses fingers*

hi,

I've been buying parts for a year, finally received the last 3 pieces this week: K7S5A, 1 Ghz Duron and Geforce2Ti.

I'm using a 128M Crucial 133Mhz module, but the system hangs whenever I use 100/133 settings. (that's what I expect it to work with, right?)

I ran Memtest-86 on it for 3+ hours at 100/100, no problems. But at 100/133 it hangs at 27% thru the first pass. Any suggestions?

Can I use DDR memory with a Duron?

The only problem I had in assembly was with the power led. The case uses a 3pin connector, but the motherboard only has 2 pins? I was just looking at some other motherboards at CompUSA, they all seem to have 3 pin connectors. I just left it disconnected for now, but will gladly accept advice.

Oh, the case is Antec, with a 250W PS.

A few more minutes of research and I find the answer on the LED pins - rework it.
Guess standards only go so far...

just upgraded my system to K7S5A ver. 1.0 last night and joint this well known forum about 5 minutes ago. Using 2 sticks of 256MB crucial and Kingston combined to boost my system to 512MB. Actually it didn't work for the first time. Flashing with the new BIOS didn't help. Then finally, rebooting for about 5 times make it works flawlessly w/o hassles (it has been tested using Sandra "burn-in wizzard" for 20 times running). I am happy now, just need to save some of my weekly paycheck to buy DDR and Athlon XP cpu for the next 2-3 months I guess, then I'll build my dream machine...:)

PSU seems not a problem for this mobo since i still use my old Generic 250W.

My configuration now:
Duron 800mhz
512mb Crucial+Kingston PC133
80GB Maxtor HD
Creative 52x CDrom
ASUS Gforce2 Nvidia 2MX400 64MB
SB Audigy MP3+
Win ME

valenti, could be the ram I have had problems with the same ram running 133 with a duron on another board. You can use ddr with this board and a duron.(at least you should be able to)
