which fan, and how would I go about making my rig almost dead silent? I dont overclock so good cooling isn't an issue.

The cpu fan usually makes the most noise in a system so get the quietest one you can find.

I have a all copper/w heatpipes coolermaster p4 heatsink with a low fan that spins at 2400rpm's, is that amount of rpm's pretty quiet?

In my computer, the 60mm fan which is on the HSF of the CPu makes the most noise. What rig are you running?? AMD or Intel?? If you're running a AMD one, you might consider 80mm FAN to go with it or a low RPM 60mm fan.

I run a 2.4 p4 I have an antec true power 480watt PSU. the 2400rpm coolermaster HS/FAN, 2 case fans that I sound tested and make no noise at all, the little fan on my ati radeon 9700 pro. Ok so there is a lawn mower outside and I can still hear my rig, I want to make this thing near silent, I know the case fans aren't making the noise, and the antec makes very low noise, so that leaves the Coolermaster fan or the Radeon's fan, which do you think is making the noise?

I just opened it up and listened and my Fing Western Digital 120GB 8MB cache is making a ton of noise. Wtf, what is the most silent hard drive I can get with 8MB cache?

I would think the coolermaster fan is the culprit.

update: if you want silent hdd, use 5400 rpm hdd. they are very slow though.

my geforce 4 4200 has the loudest fan in my system. Before that it was my generic power supply which I replaced with an enermax whisper.

By all means, get it. It's quieter than the WD SE as far as I can hear it. :D It's a tad bit faster too. Arrange a RMA with WD and send that HDD back while you're at it. :)

Nah, I bought it at Fry's Electronics and I work there, have friends in returns section. I'll just take it back tommorow, get my money back, and buy the maxtor. I recently returned a 10 month old audigy sound card and got my money back and bought an audigy 2 hehe

btw thanks for the helping me nail down the problem pillage. kudos!
