What Makes Sneaky Changes to System Restore?

In the XP Control Panel, System there is a System Restore tab which then shows what percentage of any drive or partition is to be used for S/R. I purposely set them at MINIMUM - I only need one S/R set of files. But some gremlin in XP keeps changing that back to MAXIMUM, and it is very annoying. If I knew what was doing it, I would find a way to stop it. Any ideas?

I guess no one else has experienced this phenomenon - or no one cares if it does. But, it's worth a small bumpity bump. :)

I was going to suggest this yesterday but I thought it might sound kind of snotty so I didn't. Seeing that no one's replied yet I'll throw it out for you: I'd turn off Sys Restore and use Drive Image. Make yourself an image once a week (or whenever) and you'll know what you're working with in regards to disk space usage. Also, an image restores everything, not just the drivers and registry like Sys Restore so you don't have a bunch of semi/non working programs left that you installed after a restore point was created.

A lot of people seem to like Sys Restore, however. I'm just not a big fan of all the M$ bundled crap and tend to disable it and use third-party solutions.

I juist checked System Restore in my system and the sliders are exactly where I set them (I have two physical drives and 4 partitions). No gremlins here!

Sorry I can't help so consider this a Bump.

The thing that I don't like about SR is that it defragments my drive by 20% to 30% in a couple of days if I have it turned on. With it off my drive only defragments 2% to 3% a week.
