It's one of the most addicting games I know of, once you get into it and learn how to play. Same goes for all the previous Civ games, but this one gives you even more possibilities and challenges.
 
alpha centauri was by far the best out of all the civ games (even though it isnt really civ, its the same gameplay). I still go back time to time and play it some more.
 
legoman youre right. Alpha centauri + alien crossfire was BY FAR my favorite, too. i still play it as well once in awhile.
 
I play with always at war, raging barbarians, and aggressive AI. Basically turning it more into a war sim than a regular sim.

It should also be noted that BTS is a freaking piece of shit. Seriously, I'm not using that term lightly here. I don't know how a company can make Civ4 so nicely, and then crap all over it with an expansion pack. The AI in BTS is so ungodly hideous and broken.
