What makes Bing and Google think I'm in the UK?

...when I'm in the arab emirates. I would like IE to take me to the US versions by default without having to change settings and entering american URLs. Is there a system setting which determines this?
 
This happened to my laptop when I was in France. Took a while for google to realize I was no longer sitting in Charles De Gaulle.
 
I once accidentally downloaded a test build of Firefox in UK English instead of US English. This made google think I was in the UK. Spell check also told me I was spelling color wrong!

I know you said you're using IE, but are any of your language settings set to UK English instead of US?

Chances are it may not be that simple but it's worth a look.
