What makes America powerful...?

gopunk

Lifer
I say it's the system of checks and balances... it keeps the government *relatively* honest and fair. Without that, capitalism would not have made this country as rich as it is, as we see from other capitalist countries with corrupt governments.

ditto on Weapons. i *personally* think the government isn't honest and fair.. but i wouldn't say it's corrupted either though.

yea i know, but i think it is relatively honest and fair, compared to a lot of the other countries' governments.

Well!?!??!

No one would let America police the world if they didn't have the goods to back it up!

oh you were serious... hehe... 😱

yea, but where did those goods come from? clearly, america has a basic advantage that allows them to develop and produce weapons faster and better than other countries, right?

Freedom. Every response in this thread so far, and all those to come is built on the foundation of freedom.

i'm not sure if i agree, can't you say that freedom comes from having a government that allows it? i mean without a non-corrupt government, you probably wouldn't be able to have freedom...

Whether it is "allowed" or taken by force as it was in the founding of this country, it is still freedom. Without freedom, there cannot be the level of innovation, change, acceptance, diversity and strength evidenced in the United States if America.

I agree...and the two-party system that comes from checks and balances.

Here's some things to chew on:

Natural resources
Loads of space
Geographic isolation
Diversity
Puritan values turning into Pioneer values

<< guns....
lots of guns.....

Damn, you stole my Matrix quote!😉

Seriously, the level of freedom we have is the starting point. That allows interaction and competition to flourish free of government control, and is why we are ahead in many different areas.

<< What makes America powerful...?

Her people.

There are a lot of people we could do without. I'd say some of the people and freedom. Freedom to make money which is the basic reason for why we are powerful. If china had a higher per capita GDP they'd probably kick our ass.
