What makes a hardcore gamer?

The game industry considers hardcore gamers, as people that buy more than 6-8 games a year.

my interpretation of a hardcore gamer is someone who plays q3 in 800x600 flatshade mode for visibility, has a mouse/kb setup which is arse awful to type with just setup for games.

actually lets take it a step further:

they walk around the supermarket thinking "man i could do with some body armour about now" or "this spot'd be perfect for a quick camp".
they are constantly distracted from making love to thier SO by thinking "maybe those new radeon drivers are out by now".
they will sit at thier beloved computer, playing thier chosen game while they bleeds to death and paramedics beat on thier door,
simply to "just get to a save point".
they sit watching thier best friend be brutally murdered thinking "i wonder what fps i'm getting".
thier life revolves around games, they shy away from personal contact in order to be closer to thier secret digital lover.

i'd say that kind of person was a hardcore gamer

It's not what you play, how you play, or with what you play. It is that you play! A lot.

A hardcore gamer can play at 1600x1200x32, 640x480x16, or 480x320 software mode. As long as he/she plays.

1. Playing Games
2. Playing More Games
3. Playing Even More Games
4. Yearning for Games they haven't played yet (eg. HL2 / Doom3) while Playing games.
5. Thinking about other mandatory life functions (annoyances like food and sleep) while playing games.

Of course i do. I go to a shop, buy them, go home, then go back to the shop and refund it for something else.

Star Fox Adventures
The Legend Of Zelda : The Wind Waker. (awsome game).

And i have the following on pre-order;
Half-Life 2
Deus Ex 2: Invisible War (cant wait, this`ll be GOTY, no scrub that, GOTD)
F-Zero GX.

And theres a couple more games im thinking of getting as well.

only games i buy are those which i know i'm genna play a lot online and need a cd-key...
oh well, then are 3-4 games a year that i really buy cause i want the developers to get some

well another perspective is LCD's have zero eyestrain so it lets you play for much longer periods of time without your eyes feeling weird

i have a dell trinitron 22" at work and i know when the day is almost up i do not want to look at another computer screen but you can play games on an LCD for 20+ hours no problem

so maybe the hardcore gamer should get an LCD
