Hi,
Ive posted a few comments on another thread, that i thought deserved being made into its own thread for discussion. Here are my comments on the matter thus far.

If you`re a hardcore gamer then going CRT is probably your best bet,

Not starting on you here, so dont take it as a flame against you.
But what makes a Hardcore gamer? I mean you get people on these forums saying that to be a hardcore gamer you must have this bit of hardware, you must use a computer in this way, you must use this software, but its all a load of bullsh1t. Whos to say whos the more hardcore of a gamer, the person with the rig that can run everything in high res with all of the "reccommended" parts, or the person who has a "budget" rig who runs in low res.
Its all a matter of sterotypical opinion.
Many people here agree that CRTs are better than TFTs for gaming, and rant on about how "the hardcore gamer would get a CRT over a TFT", which imo is bollocks, if one person gets a TFT over a CRT it doesnt make him/her any less of a gamer than the person who opted for a CRT.
There are several other examples that come to mind as well.
Thats the thing though. You say that someone who changes resolution alot is a hardcore gamer. But wheres the rule book? Theres no-where that says that you must change resolution alot to be a hardcore gamer is there?
I mean what a load of bollocks, you must use multiple resolutions to be a hardcore gamer. How crap is that. If someone prefers one resolution over multiple ones, it doesnt make him/her less of a gamer than someone who does.
And like i said, using a TFT over a CRT doesnt automatically demote you to the status of "general gamer".

Don`t get upset over it just enjoy your LCD like I`m .
Btw I`m not saying hardcore gamer won `t use LCD but 95% of them prefer CRT,maybe we should make a poll
Im not getting at you, im just saying that people say that hardcore gamers do this and that, but where is the rule book.
Where does it say that you have to do this and that to be a hardcore gamer?
Its all a load of bollocks baced on nothing more than a simple popular opinion.
In all actual truth, there is no such thing as a hardcore gamer.

We could make a poll, but it`d be heavily opinionated towards the CRT. People will flock like sheep to the CRT option for fear of being ridiculed for choosing the TFT.
If these so called "hardcore gamers" wanted to get technical, then the real hardcore gamer would be the people who buy the stuff that they wont touch, they drive the industry forwards so that in the future these "hardcore gamers" can use TFTs, and then they can complain about the next new thing that wont do for games.

Come to think of it, this`d make a excellent topic for discussion in off topic.
So then......Discuss!

Do you have friends who do not game? You are not a hardcore gamer.

Are your social contacts friday and saturday evening/night limited to online gaming? Chances are you are a hardcore gamer.

For one thing, hardcore gamers would be gaming right now instead of asking ATOT if they're hardcore.

Hahaha, so I guess a good synonym for "hardcore gamer" would be "anti-social nerd" :p

I personally dont give a sh1t about if im a hardcore gamer or not, i enjoy my games, and thats all the matters.
It just annoys me when you get people who say "a hardcore gamer would buy this and do that". Its all bollocks. It doesnt matter what you game on or with.

actually a hard core gamer would buy a CRT b/c if you are hardcore, you would want the absolute best looking picture...CRT's give better IQ while gaming....it's as simple as that.

Actually its not as simple as that.
Without getting off topic too much.
1) Theres more to "hardcore gaming" than what type of display you use.
2) TFTs provide a sharper picture than CRTs at their native resolution.

you are really over analyzing this. Of course there's more to "hardcore gaming" than what type of display you use, but the truth is CRT's are better for gaming. They do not ghost, and you can change resolutions without everything looking like sh!t.

For those wondering how you can go pro at gaming:

1: Win prize money or sponsored (ie: Fata1ity, Duc Doh, or Justin Wong. Not very common)
2: Get a job as a game tester. (most common, easiest to get into)
3: Make games commercially. (best odds at making good money)
4: Review games for a larger outfit. (not as easy anymore)
5: Write guides for a larger outfit. (you usually need to have some connections, and do contract work)

I've met people that have done #1. I talk with someone that does #3 online, and have met him in person. And I have a cousin that's done 2, 4 and 5. (lucky bastard!). #1 isn't really a viable career option. #2 you can do as a low end job, the pay is usually okay but the job market is rather cometitive. #3 requires some form of CS degree and a good handle on math, though graphics artists can get in but not really on the gaming end. #4 and #5 require some good writing skills. The pay isn't too hot for #5, you can't live off it but it makes for a nice side job. Of course, the downside is taht you must play some very bad games, and can't just say "this sucks" and walk away. That's right, english majors have hope in the gaming market. After all, you still have to translate what you're thinking into type.

In your opinion they are. And i highly doubt that youve used a decent TFT to compate to. IE; a 16ms one. I have a Hitachi 17" TFT, 16ms, and i dont get ghosting, or trails, or lag.
I can run at a non native resolution, and it still looks better than many a CRT ive used.

I think you're suffering from IOISITB (I own it so it's the best) Syndrome.

No, he's just suffering from USCITP (Used Sh!tty CRTs In The Past) - if you can say that a TFT is better than any CRT you've ever seen, you must have grown up with GhettoTech displays.

LOL.
My past CRTs that ive used are;
Panasonic/Matsuita WD40X60A 21". With seperate RGB inputs. Its a Professional CAD Monitor that i got cheap cos the side of it had a slight dent and it had no box or manual. So i`d say that was a good comparison.
Lets get back too topic now guys/gals/others.

Dont expect a another responce from me for about 4-5 hours. Cos ive got work.
