This is true of so many nations nowadays. I think it's almost easier to list the ones that aren't arrogant.

Hmmm...Access the interweb from a foreign country and the banners and pop-ups you see will hint at just how many people want to emigrate to the US.

That said, while many people are arrogant about the superiority of their nation, many realists in those countries do recognize the opportunity available in the US.

This is why I stay out of P&N.

What do you mean with this freedom stuff? The most free country, the only place left where freedom can be enjoyed... what on earth do you think constitutes freedom?

An American once told me my country (Britain) is un-free because we do not allow citizens to carry firearms in the street. Why should we have gun laws that we do not want? What is freedom then, if this is un-freedom?

No doubt. Wanting to come to the USA though and being arrogant about your own nation are two seperate things.

My family came to this country for the opportunity just like everyone else. I've tried leaving, but truth is that I'm willing to give up 8 weeks of vacation and 9 months of materity leave for the things we've got here.

Freedom is a broad term. Maybe American's aren't free since drugs are illegal and prostitution is only legal in parts of one state.

1. No doubt the USA, even though the display in Iraq is not impressive
2. No different then any other country, I might in fact argue that canada has some better medical sciences then the States
3. Literacy rate is no different in Canada to US, but we have languages
4. The fact you have such a huge wealth gap is not something to be proud of
5. Well, I would say you have one of the worst health care systems out there. Canada is above you by so far. I dont have to pay cash to go visit my doctor.
6. I would argue that ours is better, we dont have the same level of ghettos as the States does.

Now, I am not going to say we are better, but I am definatly going to say you are an ignorant asshat for instantly believeing the United States is better then everyone else.

I'm sorry, the 'wealth gap' is an absolutely asinine statistic. The mean condition of the bottom x% (50 perhaps?) of the economic scale.

Yea, well, drugs and hookers aren't legal here either. And they watch you with CCTV cameras. But in the US they tap your phone. *shrug*

Having visited a few developed western countries, it all seems about the same to me, especially when compared with the rest of the world.

The 25th percentile?

If 25% of a nation's people value something other than being economically successful, you can hardly blame it on the nation...

Which is why I believe opportunity is so much more important than results for this comparison
