So, young people are overwhelmingly Democratic?

I'm an old fart pushing 60. Yet, I interact with young people far more than most. I fix their computers.

When I hear all the negative comments about "young people" today I disagree and I have come to the conclusion that they are doing ok. They have something us older farts have trouble with. Their b.s. meters work fine, thank you. Try telling a young person you know Obama is a secret Muslim and show them the email that told you so. Then click the link in the email. Look up and the young person is gone. Because they don't buy into b.s. Especially computer and other media b.s. People like Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannitty are a bad joke to young people today. In fact they are not even on their radar.

A young persons life today revolves around their smartphone. An amazing piece of technology they see as a triumph of science. The idea of some guy in the desert 2000 years ago being the Son of God has a hard time competing with that. Basically if it isn't on youtube it never happened.

While most of my generation lament the lack of a well rounded education young people increasingly specialize. Not because they reject classical literature. Its that they have become extraordinary selective learners and time managers. Information overload management is what young people have learned. Its not that old dead white guys have nothing to say, its that they don't have time to do everything and if its not highly relevant it doesn't make it thru their information gateway.

Young people can't understand the public racism of the Republican Party. Many young people are racist. But they have learned there is a barrier between private racism and public racism. They know how to act and what to say when in public and in private. I think the internet and social media have made "equal access" a given to young people. Even the racists ones can work and socialize with minorities comfortable. They might not like them, but they don't fear them.

So, like the character Maisie, young people today watch the dysfunction of our political and personal lives knowing a lot more than we give them credit for. In fact, I think the smarter ones feel sorry for an older generation that is having difficulty coming to terms with the great changes that have occured in the realm of technology.

So maybe things aren't as bad as many people say.
But the again what do I know? I still read books written by old, dead, white guys.
