What mainstream movie had the smallest cast of characters

No Lifer
I was thinking 'Breakfast Club' but then it occurred to me that 'Blair Witch Project' probably had a smaller cast of characters in it.

I'm talking about mainstream movies...or a movie that was released in theaters in most markets in the US.

Edit-Breakfast Club has a cast of 12
Blair Witch a cast of 10

Depends on how mainstream it has to be. I'm assuming you're referring to how many total actors (including minors + extras) were needed? So movies that feature large crowds at any point are out.

I did see one on DVD a couple years ago called The Last Man. Link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0231956/

The whole movie only had three actors. But I don't know how widely it was released. I don't think it was very popular or well known. The main reason I saw it is because my roommate at the time was a huge Star Trek nut and it stars Jeri Ryan. He was probably looking her up on IMDB and decided to get this one.

I am Legend was pretty much Will Smith all the way except for the flashback scenes and the girl and her son.

Alien ... the first one?

The Sphere?

I'm thinking sci fi movies, especially those that take place entirely on space ships (thus The Sphere)

I checked Alien and IMDB lists 9 actors. 10 if you include one voice actor (the computer that is named Motherl). If you don't count the guys in suits and ignore the voice actor, the total is 6. There were two different "actors" that were in suits. I think they were actually the effects people in the suits.

Was gonna mention this as well.

What about its predecessors, The Last Man on Earth and Omega Man?

I think there was one that was set entirely in a hotel room, but I don't remember who was in it... Ethan Hawk maybe? I think there were only 3 people, but there may have been scenes at the beginning/end that bump up the total like with Blair Witch.
