Never really have... And I ride a motorcycle so I notice all the other texting fools in their cars before they notice me...

If one of them ever hits me, they better hope I don't get up.

Absolute bullshit. It is a distracting activity. I only hope when it finally catches up with you, you are the only person to suffer for your arrogance.

The whole activity called driving is distracting. From the music to the hot chicks you see in your travels to your passenger(s) to the crazy mofos driving around you to stuffing your face to well everything else and in between. If you can handle a million things a minute already while driving then texting for a couple of seconds literally isn't going to kill you (knocks on wood).

Every now and then I text and drive on the highway with my cruise control on.
It's a desolate highway, so the risk is pretty low.

I dont drive. I also dont text when I walk. Jesusfuckingchrist I hate mobile texters, whether they are walking or driving, they just dont look around and get hit by cars, bikes and me with my bat. Fodder for me. They are sooooo lucky I don't drive because god help me, I would aim for them, hit them, then ebay their gadget. :)

A conversation is NOT a distracting activity for me.

Whether that person is in the car or on the other end of a phone call doesn't matter.

I understand that most people cannot talk and drive at the same time, but that doesn't mean that I cannot.

Like many, I almost killed myself and others. Now I turn off my phone when I drive.

Almost every time I drive now I see someone driving erratically/poorly, and it is almost 100% someone texting or talking on a cell phone.

Check if your city has a number for calling in drunk drivers. If someone is driving as if they were drunk, it should be called in as drunk driving.

I see drunk people on the road almost every day. I'll be following a guy who is in the middle of his lane then he slowly drifts over to the lane divider, then he's in two lanes at once, then he goes back to the middle of his lane. If someone acts drunk, it should be assumed they are drunk. Phone it in. Get the license plate.

I know I'll get raged at for saying this, but when I had a phone that used T9 input, many years of practice resulted in me being extremely fast and accurate with one hand and not having to look at the phone. In this case I argue that it wasn't more distracting than people fucking with their ipods/radios, and potentially less so since I don't have to look at the phone.

When I got a smart phone this all changed. You have no tactile feedback about the position of your fingers on a touch screen, so you have to constantly be looking down and navigating menus using swiping motions or poking specific places on the screen. As such there is no way it is responsible to even attempt to text, or pretty much use these devices in any way while driving.

Every city has one. Its called 911.

And thats why I keep a notepad and pen right there in my console. Soon as I stop, I log it in. Got about 10 license plates and some even have basic descriptions too. To the best of my knowledge the cops never nailed anybody. But its better than me getting angry and feeling crummy all day.

For those bashing on Drebo, you guys do realize he's not texting and driving, but rather, talking and driving, which I believe nearly 100% of the posters in here do.

Honestly, I've never sent a text while sitting in my drivers seat with the car on. Sure I've answered some calls using my speaker phone, but I don't have to look at my phone to do that.

I still text and drive but I live in a pretty empty part of the country.

When I'm in the "real world" I dont text and drive because its fucking stupid to do so. It doesnt take much to realize you have no damn clue where you are driving when you are staring at your phone.

I havent had any close calls, near misses or any other incident but I do have a lot of common sense so I attribute my attitude on texting and driving to that.

Yep. I've rarely done it, and whenever I have, it was in a road situation that meant any fuckups would include me and only me on the list of injuries.
9/10 any texts I sent out while behind the wheel, are sent when I am at a red light or stop sign. If I'm moving, the road behind is dead.
If I'm doing it on the highway, it's a straight section, nobody is around me, and my phone is in a dashboard dock.

But generally I don't even bother with my phone while driving. I know how my brain works, and I'm usually one of the ones who scream and get pissed at shitty drivers... I don't like to look like a shitty driver and bother other people, as I actively try and always be on my game when driving.

I used to be a road warrior. 15-20k miles a year and a smartphone is a bad combination.
For me it was a near accident. Even though I was familiar with the road and knew the bend coming up ahead, I was oblivious since I was so focused on texting. Nearly hit the car in the adjacent lane.
Ever since then I stopped texting.

For some, all it takes is news of a horrific accident. For others, it may have to happen to them firsthand.
For me, a near miss is what it took.
I was never that stupid to begin with. Texting while driving, wtf. That requires both of your hands, eyes, and your attention.

I tried aligning my phone to the windshield view once, but that shit is still dangerous.

I never started.

This.

If you're on the highway (any highway) and texting, get the frig off the highway. I see people texting while turning through intersections and have no clue in the world where they are. Get off the darn highway, period.

I thought about it and concluded that it is incredibly stupid to text while driving. If it takes more than that, maybe you're just too dumb to drive in the first place.
