seems a pretty sure thing by now that dubya's got the election, so i'm curious: since gore surely can't run for any further public office (thanks to his blown credibility), what will his life be like now? former presidents are taken care of awfully well (in terms of monetary compensation and whatnot), but what about a former VP?
 
I don't think he really has to worry from a financial standpoint. He still has his Daddy's oil money, and there are plenty of other opportunities for unemployed vice-presidents. After all, didn't he create a bunch of new jobs while he was in office?

Ask Dan Qualye. Or Walter Mondale. Neither look impoverished.

He will give lectures (for fee of course), sit on boards of directors and such.

I am sure he will also have a federal pension from all his years of contiguous public service.
 
He's not keeping Air Force 2, that's for sure. Probably a pension (or is that Prez only?) and SS protection. Maybe a free hat. But as Russ stated, he's not exactly hurting for money).

But if he ever runs low (perhaps a few divisions of his FL lawyers might want some combat back-pay), he could always sell that Zinc mine on his property in Tenny.
 
Heard somewhere in the mass media that Gore might be offered the position for President of Harvard University. Don't think I'll be going there anytime soon.
 
I'm not sure where I read it but I think those 49 cent hotdogs at am/pm will only cost him 29 cents and I thought Kleenex was going to give him a lifetime supply of tissue so he could wipe his little eyes after every time he remembers how he lost because he couldn't lie and manipulate the Country as good as Clinton.
 
Heard that clinton/gore are the last to get lifetime ss protection and other benifits. From now on, it will only be for 10 years. Dont know the truth of this.

Not bad for someone who didnt/couldnt finish:

1. His tour in Viet Nam (as a reporter)
2. Divinity School

Secret service protection for life. That won't change. Let's face it, political candidates in the US need protection for life.

He gets a pension of more than 100K per year. I'm not sure of exact amount. But like others put it, he isn't hurting for money.

If I were him, I'd pack it up, move to some backwater place in Florida, and just enjoy the fishing! 🙂

Lets hope so but remember that the american people have a very short memory especially when it come to the Democrats wrongdoing.
 
He may be a candidate in 2004; he certainly has the ego to run. But, there is no way in hell he'll be the nominee. He's politically dead, even within his own party.

Hope you are right, RUSS, I heard it stated differently but on what program, I cant remember. I tend to agree with you but given the propensity by the american people to forgive any wrongdoings by the democrats, read clinton, nothing would surprise me.

There's certainly a lot of validity to the assertion that the voter has a very short memory. BUT, the voter will never get that chance in this case, because he won't get past the nomination process. His own party powerful will line up against him to ensure that he's not on the ticket.
