I usually start on normal for Single player to enjoy it, unless like someone else said, reviews say it's stupidly easy (Enslaved for ex.). Games I like and that give achievements I'll go through again on higher. Mass Effect for example, I went through on every difficulty on xbox. Insanity wasn't hard with a maxed lvl 60, just takes a lot to kill the baddies, especially with the Immunity spamming enemies.

Hardest, and often times mods to make them harder than that. Modern games are far too easy when your used to old school stuff.

I will go as far as restarting a game if I notice I destroying shit easily. If I am really loving a game I restart it at the hardest setting to extend the experience.

Hard for me usually. I feel like I could do hardest/insane, but the frustration factor outweighs the fun for me.

I nearly always play at the default level. I don't play games for their ease or difficulty, so I have no need to change the setting.

Here's a pop quiz. Name this game. When set on the hardest difficulty level random grenades just start appearing at your feet.

Ok Go.

I start out on normal and then adjust as needed.

if I'm bored, crank up the difficulty... if I'm frustrated, lower it down to easy.

Normal so I can get a "normal" run through.

I use to go for hard or hardest, but all that does is usually gimp you and help the enemy cheat.

Normal for everything. I rarely ever touch hard mode on any game.

I used to be a wuss when I was younger and I always went to easy mode.

I don't play for the challenge of beating the game; I play for the story and the environment. I usually do the default difficulty.

normal. I'm no masochist.

and I recently started a game of KB: Armored Princess. What. the. fuck.

"normal" = impossible if you choose mage class. I can barely hire a single freaking unit b/c you are so gimped with army size. the benefits for the mage class are only available way late in the talent tier (2x cast). It's freaking unbelievable. SO I run from island to island, trying to outrun everything, b/c every single army is designated "impossible" for me. what a joke.

there aren't even any powerful spells available in the early game to compensate for your gimp army. :(

I just beat KB on hard as a mage with little difficulty so I started KB:AP on impossible as a warrior (to be different).... of course I immediately noticed the medals & bonuses you get for various things (most notably perfect battles) and I'm getting nowhere quick because there are is only one enemy deemed "strong" (the rest are lethal or impossible).... wtf.

I usually start on normal to get a feel for a game then switch to hard before beating it. I almost never play anything on insane/impossible levels because it's not a good use of my time.
