Because LCDs are backlit.

Dell 2001FP. Love the monitor and would like to get another so I can run triple monitors setup.

1900FP. I play games with it, though in CoD I have to wait for the muzzle flash if I'm trying to snipe some far off soldiers in the dark with the sight. I haven't tried the game with a crt, so I don't know if the game is meant to be hard to spot far-off soliders in the dark (with whatever monitor you use). Ghosting, though, is not a problem for me.

Game performance aside, you have to appreciate the desktop space with this 19-inch. I can't ever go back to my 17 crt with it's washed out colors (FE700+).

I've got a Princeton 17" LCD I bought from Costco for $369. No ghosting at all very sharp. I am very happy with it even though I never heard of Princeton before.

16ms response time (so no ghosting), 500:1 contrast ratio, and Looks great--even without DVI in.

I picked up a NEC 1765 for my girlfriend for Xmas, I got to say I'm very pleased with it and so is she. It seems to have a wider viewing angle than any of the others I looked at and the acrylic front protects the LCD panel and makes cleaning it a snap. She's not into fast paced gaming but she does watch a lot of video on it and the picture is outstanding, good colors, brightness and no ghosting on high actions scenes.

I've got a Samsung 152T. Good stuff. No ghosting whatsoever . 17" is a bit too pricey for me though...

NEC 1760V (beige). Sweet monitor if you like to game, there is absolutely NO visible ghosting.

Oh, and the 1760NX version has DVI input.

Another Dell 1800FP user. ABSOLUTE BEST monitor I have ever used. Well worth the money.

Works well with my Radeon 9800 Pro too. :)

I'd recomend the 1760NX with the DVI, it does look even better with dvi.

Regarding the washed out blacks...
My brother has a dual-monitor setup (Sony SDM-X52B + LG L1510S --- both 15").
I had previously praised Sony for displays (snobbishness) until, that is, I saw the LG.
The Sony's blacks are rather grey, whereas the LG's are virtually CRT standard.
However, he says that the Sony is better for everyday use.

Just thought I'd say! :)

p.s. I'm running an unbranded 19" CRT :-(

I have 2 LCD monitors, one a 19" Viewsonic VX900 and the other one a 17" Sony SDM-S73! Both have great pictures, and I don't notice ghosting on either...however the Sony has a response time of 16 ms and the Viewsonic has a 25 ms one.

I have decided on the SONY SDM-X73/B or the NEC/Mitsubishi LCD1760NXBK-1 , they seem to be about the same but the Sony has speakers and it seems a little more adjustable stand . Hows the stand on the NEC ?

none yet, but i won a planar 171m-bk from ebay today.

16ms response, 17", 400:1

im sure its a decent monitor, only heard complaints about shadows in games, and that it sucks for movies ( i think it was the planar)

I have to put my $0.02 in and go with the others on the Dell 1800FP. I own 2 now, paid $380 for the first, and $450 for the 2nd (had my 21" CRT die on me, needed something quick), and don't regret it.
