I'd like to buy a second 1G DIMM... but I have no idea what brand/type I need I know it's

DDR2 SO-DIMM 667mhz

But can I buy any brand? what about latency and timings...

Is there some program out there that can tell me the specifics of my current memory without cracking the box?

Not real sure if CPU-Z will tell you the brand of your RAM or not. And are you sure that you have 1 GB stick in there already? Quite a few of the OEMs use matched pairs, so you may have to do the same when upgrading. Plus, cracking the box is a lot more harsh than the actual process is. You undo up to 4 screws and remove a plastic panel to reveal the RAM.

You can buy any brand of ram, an easy way to find out the brand would be to phone the company that made it. Not sure if there is a program that will determine the brand of ram you are using

Finally just cracked the sucker... it's HYNIX brand memory...

DDR2 5300 667MHZ...

So can I use any brand memory to match?

Got it done. Thanks everyone for the help....

ended up grabbing some Kingston RAM from Microcenter for 69.99... not as good as online... but I don't have to wait for delivery either...
