I was wondering what i can expect with HL2, as the source was stolen, i am guessing they had to make an almost brand new engine to run it, which might lower preformance, it's just that i bought my card for Halo and Jedi Acadamy, but also for HL2 when it comes out, what kind of framrate should i see with system i have below, i can run Halo at 1024 with all the eye candy(only have 17inch monitor) and i get great FPS, is this a good sign that my card/system will run HL2 good

my brother kinda made me buy it, was only 70 dollars, so not bad deal, and i didn't really want to change FSB, since i using retail Heatsink, maybe later on if i get more money, i'll buy i nice HS/F and get new Ram, but this runs fine for me as it is so far.

You'll get (Unreleased Game) + (Rewritten Source) x (No Other Results to Base Them Off) = FPS.

Translation - you won't know until there's an OFFICIAL benchmark-type tool, then it's still just a ballpark guess.

Anyway, take a look at this article. Keep in mind that NVidia's performance will likely be alot better when the game comes out, whether it be through "cheating" or no.

As long as i get like 75 or so, i don't need 200 to be happy, i just want it to not freeze up in single player, i don't need "lag' without playing online.

Anand posted some newer numbers than the ones from the HL2 Shader Day benchfest in his weblog. XbitLabs and Digit-Life have also included some HL2 beta benches in recent reviews. Suffice to say, if your currently almost-top-of-the-line 5900 can't play HL2 decently at some settings (namely, either in DX8 or FX-specific mode), Valve is in for a load of hurt.

Valve didn't have to rework the engine because of the leak, just the anti-cheat measures. The latter may force some changes in the former, but the Source engine shouldn't have to be replaced wholesale.

75fps may be pushing it, but I'm relatively sure you'll see 60fps at a more than decent level of detail.

Isn't that the truth... release a game that doesn't run well on the majority of hardware on the market... not a smart move... I have a feeling they may have delayed the release for another reason, the NV4x and R4xx since it runs like crap on today's hardware no matter what hardware you use, ATI or nVidia. Even if you average 75 fps, that still means the rate may jump up to 150 in some places, and down to 30 or less in other places... I'm more interested in the minimum frame rates than the average or maximum.

im going out on the limb here ..

with your rig ... with all settings to a minimum, no AA, no AF ..

10 FPS. you better downgrade, sell off your hardware and wait.

On a geforce 5900 non ultra, assuming u dont like eye candy at 800x600 if nVidia fixes their drives, around 50 fps.

Do you have a source for this info, or are you pulling it out of your bunghole?

At the moment there is no rig in existance that can run the game well, according to the most recent beta leaked numbers.

It's nothing new though - new engines often take two or three generations of new hardware before they start to run well.
