What kind of wine with sushi? (or other alcohol?)

Simple, what's your preference of wine with sushi? Red? White? Dry? Sweet?

I've never actually had wine with sushi, but will be tonight and would like to get a decent pairing. I personally don't like overly sweet/fruity wines, so no Riesling or fruit-blend wines.

Taken one step further, would would be another alternative alcoholic beverage that would pair well with sushi besides wine and beer?

There are a ton of different plum wines as well. I haven't found too many sushi bars doing plum wine tastings as I have sake though.

Put the Kirin down and walk away, nobody gets hurt. The Japanese do a lot of things well, beer isn't one of them.

I actually don't mind Kirin, and I love a cold beer with sushi myself. Almost up there with pizza or wings as far as combos go.

Sake is best with sushi obviously. I don't know much about wine pairs well with fish, so there's your answer.

Sake, it's an absolute must when having sushi. I personally like Horin Junmai Daiginjo myself.

Riesling doesn't have to be sweet, a decent Alsace Riesling would probably be ok with sushi.

Why would you pair a western drink with an eastern delicacy? Even food & wine connoisseurs agree, it's always best to pair things they both originated from. Don't force things just because of the addage 'wine goes with everything'.

Sushi and a crisp Asian-style beer is perfect (Kirin, Sapporo, etc). Same goes for nice hot sake or cold.

I agree with the first half but, Japanese beer is some of the worst in the world and only barely manages to rise above Korean and Vietnamese. You're better off sticking with water.

Gonna have to agree with Magnus here. Although I did have some Japanese black beer that was OK a little while back.
