What kind of weapons system is this? Cluster bomb?

Check out pictures 9,15,23,28. They all seem to be some kind of cbu, but they are bright like flares. I have seen pictures of the flares being used and this is not that. Also, check out the sniper suit in pic 4. It looks like a sumo wrestling oufit.

They are rotating the pics, they are now 12-18-26-31. It may change again, so have a look at all of them.

Weapons pics

Meh, some sort of air burst munitions. Cluster bombs break up higher up and typically don't have streaks.

That doesn't look like it, but the military developed a bomb that splits into dozens of little heat seeking bombs. There was a video of an entire column of tanks being destroyed simultaneously by one of them.

Been a while since I was an FO,
White phosphorous, illumination and certain air burst weapons (ICM) can cause this.

Yeah, it's definitely airburst of some sort, and I'd also guess artillery. Not clusterbombs they'd be dark spots in the sky and blow up on the ground.

am i looking at the right thing? pic 9 looks like a protest for palestinian freedom and 15 shows some guys carrying a coffin.

I believe they are smoke shells.

Saw a story some place about Israel artillery laying smoke to help hide the ground troops and had pics like that.

They changed the lineup. It is now 12-18-26-31

Yeah it's gotta suck.

I know if it were me I'd GTFO. You work all your life to get what you have, and it only takes seconds for a bomb to hit your house, and it's all over. I can't imagine getting home from work to find that, or worse have it happen at night and end up losing limbs etc. I would not be able to sleep at night.

Guess everyone there must be prepared though, like bomb shelters and stuff, but still.

I suspect that for the most part, the Palestinians can't GTFO.

There are some great pictures in those links.

Yep. They were trying to do the white phosphorous scandal again and it was pointed out that the only white phosphorous being used is in smoke shells such as these used to mask ground troops.

Your thinking (most likely) of the CBU-105, and your right, this isn't one of those...

Alfa link has the answer. Pic 11 and 29 say they are field artillery shells. What I dont understand is that they appear to bounce on the ground in a fire ball state. I dont see how that will do much damage.

Some ICM are "bomblets". That is an artillery shell is air burst and drops many smaller "grenades". They have plates on the bottom of them. When they hit the ground, they are propelled back into the air (6' or so) and then detonate. They are used to remove antennas from vehicles and heads from troops.

Its white phosphorous.

According to the Geneva convention its "illegal" to use it in war (depending on usage)...

It's only illegal to use on troops. Now, if you use it on their web gear....

well, IMO "illegal war" is an oxymoron, so I really don't care, just point out the fact there. It certainly is a weapon with VERY HIGH collateral damage which is why its not *supposed* to be used in populated civilian areas like this.

That's what I thought it was. MLRS can have 644 M77 submunitions that shower the target. I think they got a bad rep because there was a picture of a girl wearing a M77 as an earing.
