So what kind of TV(s) do you have at home? Are you happy with the picture quality, features, etc.? What kind of TV are you planning on buying?



Right now I have 3 sets, a 25", a 36" and a brand new Zenith 32" HDTV. I plan on replacing the 36" next month when I start looking to buy my first projection TV. I'm trying to do some research now to figure out what I should get. Since I have a fairly big room (20x22) that I'll be setting the TV up in I'm leaning towards something in the 50-65" range. I definitely want a set that will have HDTV capabalility and I might play the occasional video game on it as well.

One of my coworkers says that the Pioneer Elites are currently the best projections avaliable right now followed by Mitsubishi's. I have'nt done any research on those yet, but this weekend I'll probably go around and look at a few.

Well... i have a 12".. bad colours and quite small to be honest... but i guess i have to thank my landlord anyway for letting me one... :roll:

Being a student is very stressing nowadays :p

Computer room: 13" RCA. I got it 10 years ago as a Christmas gift.

Main entertainment room: 13" and I don't remember the manufacturer (the part with the name broke off years ago). I got it used 5 years ago.

Yes I desperately need a new TV. I'm happy with the picture quality of both. However the size is way too small. I'm planning on buying a 27" TV right after I move. I was looking at this Toshiba.

I really don't watch enough TV to buy a new one... I currently have a 17" panasonic tv/vcr combo :D

Current: Toshiba 27" Cinema Series and Apex 13"

Future: Probably Hitachi S500 or Panasonic HDTV but that's several years away

32" Mitsubishi (excellent picture quality in my opinion)

27" Magnavox in bedroom. (Ok picture but who cares it's for the bedroom).

2 13" TVs for kid's rooms

Planning on getting at least a 57" HDTV Widescreen. The wife and I have been frothing at the mouth over them for a long time and now that we have our house it will be the icing on the cake! :D

I have a 36" Sony WEGA HD CRT (my other TVs are unused; I think they're Panasonic and Samsung). Eventually, I'm looking to get some sort of DLP RP screen, but probably not until I move into a larger space.

The Pioneer Elites are indeed good screens, but the best screens I have ever seen (projection and otherwise) are made by a German company called Loewe. The only place I've ever seen them is in a high-end home theatre/audio showroom.

I'm jealous, I wanted a Sanny but they're out of my price range. Plus I did'nt like the idea of having to change the bulbs.

Hows the PQ on the Pioneer?

I was really tempted to buy Sony's latest XBR but the reviews on the Zenith were really good so I saved a few bucks and went with that instead. But to Sony's credit the clarity and the color on those XBRs are amazing.

27" I'll buy a bigscreen when i can be bothered. I'm a bit perturbed at the bad quality of non-hdtv signals on a big screen, so I'm in no rush to buy.

Directv (with a few Directv HD channels), OTA HDTV, DVD, XBox.

I don't know if it's me or the TV, but many channels and DVDs just don't come with the clarity and color that I expect. Plus I have a geometry issue that was supposedly fixed last year, but I the problem has crept back. Time to call the techs out.

What I think I need is a calibration expert to go over my set. Maybe that will help. I just can't find one in Houston.

Good point

When I got my Zenith I was amazed at how crappy my satellite signal looked. But whatever projection TV I end up with 90% of what I watch will be DVD.

2 19" TVs for general TV watching. Doing less of this.
1 Infocus Projector, imaged stretched to 75" (for DVD Movies)

No plans to get anything new until HDTV is available over the airwaves in large numbers.

Yeah I've heard calibration does wonders for many of the new sets. I think there's a couple of DVDs that can help you adjust the PQ on your own but I'm not sure where to find them.

32" Toshiba that I bought a couple months ago. I'm very happy with it. (only like $350)
I considered getting a big (40-60") widescreen, but I think projection sets look like crap and I couldn't justify spending 3k on plasma.

The only thing I really watch is DVD's a couple times a week.

I figure I'll get a big screen in a couple years when quality is better and prices are lower.

Maybe like an 8 foot wide paper thin OLED that I can hang on my wall.
