Walmart has the Nexus 7 Black Wi-Fi 32GB Tablet - ASUS-1B32 with Inland ipad folio for $249. Ipad 5 and Ipad Mini 2 are coming soon as well as these for 2013.

by 2014, the tablet should finally evolve into a unit that will replace the laptop and smartphone. Expect to see storage/media capacities well past 300GB and impressive hd screens. Android 5.0 will have better multi-tasking, worth waiting for.

I'll continue to use my desktop till technology proves to me its worth upgrading.

i wish i could say nexus 7 but that tab has had so many design and manufacturing defects that its hard to recommend, the latest of which is that they dont recharge if you let them totally discharge. so i would say ipad mini, although it has a suck screen

Kindle hd would be fucking awesome if it wasn't for Amazon's lock down. Once I downloaded ADW launcher, go keyboard, and dolphin browser the device became what it should be.

i don't recall seeing one there, though i wasn't looking for it either. I'll check it out first if i decide to get one.

It wasn't out on display. Find the nexus 7 on display in the store and check the case under it. I am enjoying mine a lot but I think the 7 is just a better size. I will definitely get a nexus 7 if they update the hardware.

i looked at the ipad mini today and i have to say its really nice. i had to resist doing an impulse buy. even though the retina version will be out soon, the cpu/graphics may be a little underpowered as on ipad3 so that might make the current one more acceptable. ipad mini=thumbs up!

Samsung Ativ smart pc... amazing 11.6 inch tablet. Full usb. Full Windows. Amazing.
Paid 699 for mine.

Just hope you don't have to send it in for repair. Mine had separation issues that I made worse by picking at it, and Samsung wanted me to pay for it, but ended up fixing for free.

I have no idea how good the fix is - it should be here tomorrow.

Can you look at yours around the SD slot, and the bottom near the Windows button and see if you have any issue?

There are a lot of noob users with any device like the Nexus 7, I thought ours wouldn't charge but the wall-wort just needed re-seating, some people will just return anything at the first sign of trouble, to restart it after a full discharge you just have to hold the power button for 25-30 seconds. my China Android tablet does this once in a great while. Overall the Nexus is a very well-built machine, we paid $250 for the 32gb model (my wife's X-mas present) and it is fast at anything and smooth at everything..

I had one for a few months, worked flawlessly. First device (mostly because of JB) that really had me sold on Android.

Got rid of it only because I'm even higher on the Windows 8/Windows Phone "ecosystem" and got the Surface RT. Much more useful for me because I'm working on a book, and with Skydrive plus a semi-useful TouchCover (really need to get a TypeCover now) I can work on stuff at 4 AM at Dunkin' Donuts and have stuff backed up and synced automatically across all my devices. :) 10 hours battery life and portability really help versus a true laptop.

I'm thinking about picking up a Nexus 7 again. While I don't need 2 tablets, the mount in my car can fit the Nexus 7 and I like having a dedicated device for music. Surface RT is just too big to mount (except for cupholder one), as is any 10" tablet, except for in-dash setup.

Is there a way to stream content from a Windows PC to an Ipad? Or better yet some type of HD that can stream media from it to other devices. that would be the cats ass right there, no need for additional storage mediums connected to tablet.

Splashtop will do what you are asking quite well.

I have owned, or used, about every tablet available and the Nexus 10 is certainly my choice. I think many of the complaints about it, like the slow charge issue, are just repeats of BS somebody read somewhere. Mine charges very quickly and does not deplete the battery while plugged into the charger. I tried connecting it to a TV and played a streaming movie for 2 hours and 10 minutes and the charge did not deplete from the full charge it started with. It is faster and smoother than any tablet I have used. The display is also superior. If you want to see how good, try "Timescapes" (the movie) in 4K resolution. You can buy it for $29 or find a trailer to stream. As far as you cannot get one, Wal-Mart has them on their online website for same day delivery to the store. We bought several at work and picked them up Friday. They are not available in the store for some reason. In Houston, they were available in 4 hours. They are even a bit cheaper than buying from Google Play Store ($2 cheaper ??) As far as the number of Android apps vs Apple iOS apps....do you realize how old many of those iOS apps are? Android 4.2 is a wonderful OS and, as far as I know, only available on a Nexus at this time. If you want some excellent advice on this subject from one of the truly brilliant members here at AT try

Thanks for info, i checked into it, decided to get it while on sale. Don't really care for it.
it changes my desktop's resolution and goes into a small box and is really nothing more than a remote control to the PC.
I hoped there was a way to access stuff without actually controlling the PC itself through the Windows UI. I didn't really want Windows 8 desktop on my ipad and it's jittery and funky to control. I can see potential uses however, should have investigated further so my fault entirely. Maybe what i really want is to just transfer data to and from the ipad so i don't have to use Itunes, basically a wireless storage medium.

no big deal, it was only 3 bucks.

The problem ultimately with the Nexus 10 is not the tablet itself, there just aren't a lot of tablet specific apps to run on it. Heck, the Microsoft Surface has a better baseline experience than the Nexus 10 because you should never be running phone apps on a 10" screen with Windows RT.

Damn.. you almost make me regret not choosing the 10. I chose the 7 because there was no place to test 10 first-hand and couldn't find credible in-depth reviews of the 10.

Thank you for the link you provided. I do not know whether it's your blog or someone else's, but I am reading it right now and it is so informative and educating. I wish AT had a sub-forum for Android OS (and device, but more for the OS) so that we can exchange information and learn from each other. Right now, when I have questions or findings I kind of tack them into others' threads while being careful not to hijack.

This forum is a little too congested so I made the suggestion (here) some time ago. And apparently it's not out of the realm of possibility, reading the reply from an admin. As it is, this forum is a mixture of Apple/Nexus/Surface/Google/Netflix/MS/iOS/Samsung/Flipboard/Windows 8/ASUS/Motorola/AT&T/iPhone/Android/Headsets/Atom/4G LTE/iPad/Bluetooth Joysticks/HSPA+/WTF&$@^%!%. It is difficult to sort through the information you're looking for.

Hopefully there will be a wise solution so that AT forum can keep thriving without losing visitors or sending members elsewhere. I ask others to join in the linked thread and state opinions if possible. (link below again)

Just got my surface today and I'd definitely recommend it for your needs. It has support for peripheral devices via USB and mini-Displayport, which is working with one of my Mini-DP to HDMI dongles to drive another monitor. Storage capacity comes from the 32 or 64GB internal, but it also supports microSD cards, so you can attach more if you need it.

Can't say anything for the battery life just yet, i've only been installing apps and setting up accounts since i got it, and i haven't given it a full charge yet.

Between this and Surface's poor resolution, apps and shady future, still seems Ipad has a lot of edge, at least for me.

Baloney (classic Apple FUD) and baloney squared.

In fact, any of the stuff you'd be running "phone apps" for with the Nexus *doesn't exist at all* for RT. It takes a wilful sort of perversity to claim that this is in any way a better experience.
