Hi, I'm curious and haven't posted in a while, but would like to know what kind of computer system would you build for $1400, with or without a monitor. My parents have given me a "budget" of that amount to use for a new computer and I would really appreciate suggestions. Thank you

I would modify the head on my car to allow multiple nitros oxide foggers to inject in the direct stream of the fuel injectors.

Maybe drill out an intake, weld on some bosses and thread in some foggers.

I don't know, but if I had $1400 I'd know.

Check out Anandtech Buyer's Guide: Value Systems - October 2000

You may want to take a look at the Gaming Value System which was reviewed by Anandtech.com, and OC the Duron 650, or go for the better Tbird since CPU price has droped drastically. The best investment that you could do for your computer system is to get a better monitor and/or speakers. (Don't waiste your money on a DVD player for your computer, because the DVD player for your TV is much nicer to operate and it is not as noisy.)

Also, you might get better respond in the GH forum.

hehe... just the cusl2. Asus probably screwed up and released this too early. It is very buggy. All I see are complaints and problems on the board at www.cusl2.com. It seems like the key to making this board to work is using Micron/Crucial memory. Intel recommends that for the i815 chipset...

I'm looking along these lines which should be in your price range:

ENLIGHT 7237 ATX MED TOWER Case $40

Antec 300W Power Supply $44

AMD THUNDERBIRD-A7 ATHLON 750MHZ SOCKET A W/FAN (RETAIL-3 YEAR WARR) $130 CPU

ABIT KT7 KT133 4XAGP @200FSB UDMA/66 SOCKET A ATX $132.95 Motherboard

Floppy $9

IBM DTLA-307030 30.7GB ULTRA-100/7200RPM HD $140 Hard Drive

CARDEXPERT NVIDIA GEFORCE2 MX 32MB 4XAGP W/O TV $113.95 Video Card

or if funds available Elsa Erazor X GeForce 256 GPU About $150

CREATIVE LAB LIVE! VALUE PCI 256VOICE ENVIRONMENTAL AUDIO (OEM) $54.95 Sound Card

PIONEER DVD-105 16X IDE DVD DRIVE (SLOT) $136.95 DVD Player

http://www.7thzone.com/ Web site with info on DVD

128MB Mushkin High Perf REV1.5 PC133 RAM $136

32x/8x/4x PlexWriter Internal EIDE CD-RW with Software CD-RW
Mfr. # PX-W8432TI/SW $159

Samsung Syncmaster 955DF 19"/18V .25mm monitor $ 318 Mfr. # 955DF

That's about $1360 with the cheeper video card. I didn't include speakers or keyboard and mouse, but you can go with cheeper ram and a smaller HD if necessary.

Except for that I'd lose the Abroken KT7 motherboard out in favor for when the MSI K7T Pro II comes out in the next week or so.

I would not waste your money on a creative labs sound card such as a sblive..They are terribly noisy and make a popping, crackling sound that will drive you nuts...Instead, go for anything with the aureal vortex 2 or try the new turlte beach santa cruz...now that a nice piece of hardware..To all you sblive users: soundblasters suck!

SB live sucks? I love mine...

Paul

P.S. VOODOO 5 5500 is the bestest of the best! I love it so much more than my Geforce:)

I wear glasses. I have school tomorrow. People laugh at me when I'm tired and make irrelevent comments. I can't spell sometimes. I placed 3rd place in 3 state spelling bees, and went two more times in high school. I'm sick now. Do you like this? BWAHAHA...I'm my own seinfeld. I'm weird. Good night.
