I know the mouse isn't defective because I already returned one that was doing the same exact thing. Right now I just have a regular mouse pad I got from some training I went to.
I have the same set as you, I bought a $20 mouse pad hard plastic but it's still to soft, cleaning it all the time helps but I seen a mousepad it was like $25 in Canada that looked really sweet I think it was a 3M and the sarface is really hard called a proformce opitical prosicoin mouse pad I think, I opened the pack and felt it, nice.
Yeah get rid of your old form Mouse pad for sure and get a really good hard one our use your desk or table.
I need one for gaming, I was going to buy a new mouse but I like mine and I was looking a pads and relised mine was way to soft.
Oh yeah I forgot I have to have the Reciever really close to my mouse like 5 inches for it to work well also.
