What kind of superstitions do you believe in?

Lets leave religion out of this thread.

I'm talking about the "Walk on a crack break your grandmother's back" kind of thing.

Another example would be the "Knock on wood for good luck."

For me, I can't think of any superstitions that I believe in.

other than the obvious ones, none.

throwing a black cat over your shoulder.
Not crossing salt's path.
Knocking on your grandmothers back
Hit crack for good luck.

Call me weird, but every time I feel that I've done something good, I always get the last Shrimp Sushi in the University Student Center.

I've been wearing the same running socks for the last dozen or so runs I've done and my times have been improving consistently, so I will keep wearing them until they stop working or they fall off my feet.

Generally I'm not superstitious though.

I cannot under any circumstances fall asleep with an arm hanging over the side of the bed. Maybe there's a little sharp toothed gnome under my bed, and maybe there isn't, but I'm not going to find out the hard way.

Karma. The funny thing is you'll have the most anti-Christian, religion-bashing hippy in the world see a guy steal a parking space and say "Yeah, well karma's a bitch." with complete conviction. Karma is complete superstition.

Are not believing in superstitions and just feeling there's no good reason to do certain things the same thing? If so, then most of my "superstitions" are about saying negative things because somewhere someone will make it happen. No, I'm not religious at all, but also there's no reason to say that something negative unless you wanted to feel bad about saying it afterward should the event occur. Ok, goodbye.

None really, but I knock on wood as an emphasis in conversation sometimes.

same here. i also toss salt behind me when it spills, but its more of a knee jerk reaction to having my grand parents make me do it as a child.

thats one of murphys laws isnt it? if you say something bad it will happen. also, if you say something bad about someone, they will hear it eventually. these basic rules keep me thinking about what i say out loud, as i used to get in much drama due to saying stuff without thinking first.

Meh. Screw that. I say what I think. If people don't like it, sucks for them. I don't mean it maliciously.

ie: I have a couple of friends who are well into the "obese" category. Once we were talking bout physical attractiveness/girls/etc, and I brought up the fact that their being fat wasn't helping their chances. It was an appropriate comment within the context, and I didn't mean it as an insult. I just stated a fact (and made clear that I didn't mean it maliciously). They agreed. I'm actually trying to help one of them lose weight.
