What kind of spider is this?

Found this thing in a tarp in the backyard. It was about 1.5-2 inches long from the eyeball to the end of the abdomen.

Sorry about the picture size (500K), started uploading before I noticed.

My guess was some sort of tarantula. Can anyone get more specific?

looks like a flippin crab with those eyes!

We have them here. When I saw the OP was in Texas, I didn't know if their range went that far.

I'm in Texas too. I've never seen those spiders around. The ones I see very often are the writing spiders and black widows.

Yes that is a wolf spider and they are in Texas. They are harmless and great to have in a garden as they eat up lots of insects, but they are jumpers so watch out.

Wolf spiders I've seen are more like .5"
