A friend of mine has OCD and it's detrimental to her health. She visits a website strictly for relieving a compulsion. I want to know of any software that would block her from going to certain sites that she could put a lock on. Of course a room mate of hers would know the password and lock it for her. This way she won't go there for relief when she starts obsessing. Anyone with any good freeware please let me know, thank you very much.

With Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, yes, looking for reassurance is a bad, bad thing.

The number one treatment for OCD is called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is the process of getting ones self habituated to something. Like people who wash excessively, they think their hands are dirty, therefore they wash. They wash until they feel it is clean. Washing is a compulsion which leads to reassurance. They are looking for a way out of their anxiety. They touch something like a table top at a restaurant. They go crazy because they think they are now infected. They get extremely anxious, and they need to relieve that anxiety. But by doing this you only lead the OCD on, and on, and on. The key to beating OCD is being habituated. You touch something and DON'T wash your hands because eventually the anxiety will get so high that it can't go any higher and it'll begin to fade. Hope you understood what I just wrote.

OCD sucks, my brother was in UCLA a few years ago and suffered from a severe case of OCD for quite some time. it was pretty serious, he would literally lock the car door, or open and close a door repeatedly for a long time.

he would stack his books up perfectly, then notice a little inperfection and then restack them again. it was crazy, even the smallest things like washing his hands and drying them!!

he knew he had it, he was diagnosed with it, and he knew what the symptons were. but he couldnt stop his urge from "perfectioning". anyway, its been about 2 years now, and hes all good now.

hope your friend gets better soon.
