What kind of screwdriver can withstand being wet all the time?

Rental apartment, non-helpful management, low rent.

The plastic knob on the shower broke, the replacement they supplied needs to be loosened in order to turn it all the way off and tightened to turn on.

I want to leave a screwdriver in the shower so that it's easy to find. The one from the dollar store has rusted.

If I put one of my "good" craftsman screwdrivers in the shower, will it rust? Or, what kind of screwdriver can I get from home depot that will last?

I googled "waterproof screwdriver" and discovered that the answers were not something that I'd want my kids to see.

You MIGHT be able to find one made from stainless steel...but it'd probably be expensive.

Why not insist that they fix the dammed thing right?
(sorry, your profile sez Noo Joisey...land of bad apartments) 😀

You can probably find cheap screwdrivers anywhere...just use it till it rusts away, then replace it.

Get an aluminum one? Maybe titanium... maybe uranium... maybe plutonium!

Why... don't... you... put the screw driver in a little compartment somewhere in your bathroom so it doesn't get wet?

well... the problem with the cheap ones are they are just crappy steel with paint on them, get something with a real finish or quality metal for more expensive and you should be fine

The last time I fixed a broken shower knob, it cost me ~$5 in parts. It'll probably be cheaper to fix it yourself than to buy a special screwdriver. Assuming you are at least partly handy, it'll be far easier to fix it yourself than to screw on/off the knob each time you want to use it.

Thank you for the suggestions. Yes, I did try to replace it myself - problem is that way too much stuff in this old building is cobbled together from odd parts at random times. The actual stem part of the knob is inaccessible. I've got a good plumber friend working on this as a challenge.

Till then, I still need to shower!

buy a cheap screwdriver and dip it in a can of the rubberized grip stuff that's for pliers.

probably just be cheaper/easier to fix it right, though.

It has be stainless steel or galvanized. Just get one that looks quite shiny and it should be stainless if it's not labeled otherwise.

Neither stainless (usually) nor galvanized (almost never) are shiny. Shiny is usually nickel or chrome plating.
