What kind of scam is this?

okay, i got my T-bird 1ghz from purolator today, i ordered it from NCIX. I open up the box and see the CPU with a "warranty void if removed" sticker covering half of the core....how am i going to get good contact with my alpha 6035? the sticker comes off nice and easy so do i take it off and save incase i need to put it back on again and return it, or will they know? hmmm, i have heard about the cpus coming with these stickers but this one is huge and covering half of my chip.

LOL that should be on the back not the front.... call them first and ask them if you can take it off the front and stick it to the back.

on the back? but the sticker is too big to fit on the back of the socket a chip without covering some of the pins

i've seen them covering the L1 bridges.... call them before you take it off, it might be a good idea to get the "ok" in writing, in case you talk to someone who just says "ya sure" without the authority.

From Dilbert cartoon:

Dilbert: Something is wrong with my computer, can you help me?
Tech: Sure, Open the case and have a look inside, tell me what you see.
Dilbert: But there is a sticker on the case that says "Warrenty Void if Removed"...
Tech: Call back if your situation improves. *click*

Think this one fits here 🙁
Bummer dude

i just talked to the sales guy at NCIX, he told me to carefully remove and relocate the sticker, i told him to send me an email stating that and then i would. Is it okay to cover any of the bridges or resistors with this sticker, if not, there is nowhere to put it, maybe on my forehead

I saw a shady company put one of those stickers over the S-code on PII's in the computers they sell. When you take it off and see that it really is a 233 not a 266 they say "Too bad...warranty was voided"

I know this from experience 🙁

What's the point of that sticker anyways? It probably got stuck on wrong at the factory. They are usally placed where there are no bridges.

Why not cut around the slug and leave the sticker on the front??? Oh but remove the part of the sticker on the slug... 🙂

Legally they probably can't make that stick, because the sticker wasn't put on by the original manufacturer and the sticker interferes with the purpose of the article. It is a scam designed to stop them losing any money on returns, but they can't legally enforce it.

Just been reading up about Just Imagine - These SOBs are still in business WTF?? is going on here. This is a number one scam business if I ever see one.

Yep its a mail order buisness mainly but I was local to the place. I don't think they sell near as much as they used to but they still do.

They were busted by Microsoft once before but just changed the name. I had my puter in for work and they had left a note on the desktop saying that they took some software from it. I kid you not.
