What kind of RAM do I need?

Hi there,

My friend has an old IBM PC -- a Pentium II (with a DVD drive amazingly) -- and he just bought a new HP printer.

Problem is he needs 64MB of RAM and he only has 32MB. I opened his machine up and the RAM looks like SDRAM but it's been a long time since I handled SDRAM so I forget what it looks like.

On it you can see "32 MB NS 4Mx64 3.0V 66MZ" and there are 8 chips on each side.

My question is what kind of RAM does he have and what kind of RAM should I order him to hold him over until he gets a new PC this fall?

does the ram look like DDR, if so then its more likely SDRAM(they didnt have ddr back then so its not ddr), get him some pc133 will work good!! and give possiblility to overclocking later. if the ram is shorter/smaller with fat chips its probably EDO memory(if so, u have almost no luck in finding any today). OH yeah, what color are the slots that the memory sit in?? usually, white was EDO, black = SDram.

You need 66mhz SDRAM, but you can buy PC100 or 133 and it should be backwards compatable. Don't go through the trouble of looking for PC66.

His best bet is to plug his model number into Crucial's memory configurator to find out exactly what he needs. If it's PC66 or PC100, PC133 will work but only if it is not of the 'high density' variety which most retail stores sell.
