i just feel like I know all the pertenent info, and only working there is gonna give me a good feeling what it is like. how do i not sound like a dummy?

I usually asked questions regarding special projects, plans for expansion, why I would want to work for the company, what kind of daily tasks, etc.

How would you spend an average day in this job? What is the work schedule? What benifits are available, and how long do you have to wait? What kinds of raises or promotions are available?

no, but he can tell you the particulars of what he likes. word the question so you get his feelings on things.

On a more serious note, you could ask something like, "Can you describe the work environment that I would be in." Or you could ask him to ellaborate on one of the topics that came up in the interview.
