Anybody ever heard of a port with 17 pins? My grandpa has an external 5 1/4 inch drive with a 17 pin cable. Thanks for the help.

It's most likely a proprietry interface...

On something like that, it could be for anything - I dont know what connections the commodore64 used (mine had cassettes ;) , Im not sure if Apple ever had external 5 1/4, but most likely they did.

it doesn't sound like any kind of PC interface though; perhaps if you could draw a diagram or describe what the port looks like (ie: 2 or 3 rows of pins, how long, how wide, what shape etc.) I might be able to find out, but I think the question is why do you want to!

Unless you have some really important info on 5 1/4" disks... An archaic 486 with a 3.5" floppy would cost less than the cable for that external drive, I would imagine...

But, if you really need it, try and grab some more info - maybe even a model off the drive?

Could it be from an ancient Commodore, Atari, or Amiga? At least one of them used a smart interface that was a bit like SCSI (much slower)
