Due to forces beyond my control, I will be getting a new computer. My old setup consisted of a Pentium 4 3.0 ghz HT w/ 1 gb DDR400, and an ATI AIW 9800 Pro.

My new computer will consist of a Pentium 4 Dual Core 2.8ghz w/ 1gb DDR2 667, with an Nvidia Geforce 7300LE w/ 256mb.

I realize the 7300 is an entry level card, but how does it compare to the 9800 pro?

All I really care about is running World of Warcraft smoothly, at medium detail, at 1280x1024.

Wouldnt the better memory and dual core be better than the last setup ? Except for video that is.

If all you really care about is playing wow, then the "better memory and duel core" won't do ****** for you, and the new video card will barely be able to handle the game with all settings turned all the way down.

By the comparison here, it looks like the 7300LE is only half the card of a 9800 Pro....You will be downgrading the video dramatically imo. WOW...I just noticed, who would have thought the 7300 would only be 64-bit.

Damn, that is pretty bad, especially for the Radeon being 3 years older.

Well that 9800pro radeon was a flagship card back in the day... entry cards are not really for gaming rather more for video stuff like hdtv and so forth, cant really compare the cards side by side like that.

Why not get a single core cpu, save some bucks, and get a better video card ? Are you at all concerned with anything else other than WoW ?

Like I said - due to forces beyond my control.

At the moment, no, i'm not really concerned about anything other than WoW. If I can run that OK - i'll be fine until I upgrade.

Speaking of which, what would be a good budget card to upgrade to?

Look at the Leadtek 7300GT 128Mb DDR3 from Newegg. About $90 shipped and faster than a 7600GS. Overclockable to be nearly as fast as a stock 7600GT. Very highly rated card for the price. The DDR3 memory makes a big difference and this is currently the only 7300 with DDR3 available to us in the USA.
