I need some pants/shorts to go running/jogging in. I'm in the Pacific Northwest so it's pretty dang cold. Probably thinking pants. Also recommendations on a top would be good as well.

On really cold days wear good thermal underwear under a pair of track pants.

around here you can find great deals on name brand dry fit stuff at the end of the season so my collection is pretty mixed. That said I do really like my reebok insulated pants and Nike procombat shirts. I wouldn't pay near full price for them though given the options

Whatever I happen to be wearing because if I am running then it must be important and I wouldn't have time to change.

Define "pretty dang cold". Two weeks ago it was 14 degrees with a -10 windchill. I ran 10 miles in thermal tights.

Anything under 30 and I wear something like this:

Between 30 and 50 and I wear an under armor fleece lined tights.

Above 50 and it's just shorts.

I wear those too. Just be sure to wear running shorts over them. No one wants to see the outline of your junk while you run.

The polyester/spandex sleeved athletic shirts and pants are your best option, soft on the inside (not quite fleece lined but softer than the outer tight synthetic weave), along with an inexpensive running hat and set of running gloves. Anything more than that, I'll sweat like a horse, even at such low temps.

Those really light loose running shorts so everyone can see my junk flap around. Bonus points if the tip sometimes hangs out.

I'm in Portland Oregon, all I wear is shorts and a t-shirt, sweating in a few minutes.

sounds about right.

went to visit once in January, it was raining and fairly cold; I, being a SoCal native, wore pants and a thick jacket like a normal person.

Saw some girl loading up her vehicle with groceries, wearing a t-shirt and gym shorts.

At 14 degrees there ain't much to outline. No shorts. No regrets.
