If you already use a Full synthetic, then you have to continue using it. It is recommeded that you continue using the same type and weight all the time. It is like sleeping with two different women, you wont get the same results, and your machineary will be hurting. :)

Hogwash. You can switch back and forth every day and not a damn thing will happen.

Hogwash, i have alot of mechanic friends!

use the weight that the owners manual says???

not for me, things change with miles/age and driving conditions

5w20 is the way to go?????? not always, in the high heat on high mileage engine that runs low rpms under heavy load= no way would I use 5w20 in summer

5w20 is for better gas mileage, that's why they like it, run 5w20 in some VW engines in heat on the interstate and you will shorten engine life, it's proven, well than again some there engines are poor to begin with

I was a auto tech for 10+ years and your "mechanic friends" are idiots. As long as the oil meets its weight called for the car and meets the standards, right now SM and GF4, it will be fine and you can switch all day long.

years ago switching wasn't always a good idea, and mixing really wasn't a good idea, esp if you mixed conventional oil with true syn.

but things have changed, this winter I may use 4 quarts of tropartic 5w30 syn blend with one quart of mobil full syn 0w40

if the manual doesnt state a certain brand or special grade, i usually go with mobil. for my vw 1.8t i had to use a certain grade, so i used what the factory uses, pentosynth.

Regular, best buy is tropartic syn blend (It's the same as motorcraft).
all major brands of regular oil are just fine

Synthetic, ??????????? I really can't say which best here, Mobil is good, but the best?

it all depends on your driving habits and type/brand of vehicle. but synthetic of any brand is going to be better than regular.

mobil 5000 that takes me 6000 between oil changes w/my genuine toyota oil filter. I do mostly highway driving, and toyota's oil change interval is every 5k or 6k...cant remember. Ive got 123k on my 01 corolla, and my dad has 280k on his 01 camry w/o any engine work. We both do the same oil change intervals.
