Going to change the oil in my car and I thought that maybe this time I should consider the advice from the people of ATOT. So what would you recommend?

Use whatever you were using before, unless use synthetic if you:

1. live in a hot environment
2. have an engine that uses forced induction

Whatever kind you want.

Just use a good oil filter though. No FRAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Wix/Napa Gold are readily available, cheap, and one of the best oil filters.

Havoline and Mobil are good cheap oils. If you want to spend more then look at Syn oils.

Don't use Fram filters though.

the conventional wisdom is synthetic for new cars or cars that have always had it, and whatever name-brand is cheap for older cars that have previously had normal oil.

I use the cheapest oil I can get, a cheap filter and change the oil every 3000, my truck has around 260,000 miles and runs fine.

Hey, I'm a believer here. Amsoil makes a huge difference in our dragsters transmission and rear end. Don't be a hater until you've stressed it yourself.

If you already use a Full synthetic, then you have to continue using it. It is recommeded that you continue using the same type and weight all the time. It is like sleeping with two different women, you wont get the same results, and your machineary will be hurting. :)

I would recomend using the Castrol brand, or Vavoline.

I switch oil brands once in a while, I also switch weights thru out the year, 5w30 in winter, 10w30 in summer, this summer I tried 10w30 with one quart of 15w40 added, it worked great, I burned less oil 210,000 miles on my v8.

with the 15w40 added I burned one quart of oil in 2,000 miles

Hogwash. You can switch back and forth every day and not a damn thing will happen.

Put whatever weight and viscosity that the manufacturers manual says. Brand is personal preferance... but oil is oil. ;)
