Well, after talking to many of you guys and people on other posts, I still can't get the Asus A7A266 motherboard to work right...so, i am going to give up on it.

I was curious what other motherboards you guys may suggest? I'm a student and I just want something to work reliably. I'm not going to be overclocking it, and I already have the AMD 1.3 processor 266 FSB and 2 sticks of 256 crucial DDR..now I just need to get a board to stick these all in.

I ordered the Crucial Ram specifically for that Asus motherboard, so I would like to try to get something that will be compatable.

Any help would be much apprecaited.

Thanks

here is a list of what I have already purchased:
2 sticks of 256 RAM - DDR PC1600 ? CL=2 ? Unbuffered ? Non-parity ? 2.5V ? 32Meg x 64
AMD Athlon Thunderbird - 1.33 ghz 266mhz FSB
ATI Radeon, LE 32MB DDR
IBM Deskstar 60GB
Soundblaster Live! Value
CD-RW AOPEN 1232A
Toshiba 12X DVD-ROM TSDM-1402BK W/DECODER

Now i just need a motherboard....

Dude, want a nice water cooling setup? For a nice price... $135 .. includes everything u will need. I got one with my 1.2 t-bird and Epox 8KT3A ... From what I hear the Iwill KA266 is a nice ass board for DDR. I would go with it. I bought the water cooling system at leufken.com ... I am happy =) ... looks sweet as hell

I agree that the Epox 8K7A is a good one to get, just don't match it up with a Netgear FA311 NIC.

Hey Guys, thanks a lot for all the replies... I really appreciate them.

Seems Epox 8K7A is the top reccomendation for me...although last week I purchased a Netgear FA311 NIC, which one says wouldn't be good to use with this board...but really, that is a minor problem if I can get the board to work.

I've never built a cpu, so choosing a motherboard is always the most difficult decision for me..I guess I will read into this one a bit more and hope it can work with most of what I already have purchased.

Thanks a lot, if anyone has any other suggestions, please throw them at me I can use all the help I can get.

<< Just curious, what is the difference between the Epox 8K7A and Epox 8K7A+? >>

The + has RAID.

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am taking it the + is better than, and It appears both should work with what I already have, so it would be wiser to go with the Epox 8K7A+?

thanks a lot again..so many options out there it's easy to get overwhelmed especially when I am not sure about all of the terms.

As was already mentioned, the + means it has RAID. Do you need RAID? Do you know what it is? (Hint: if you don't know what it is, you don't need it :))

Well, I guess then I don't need it. I think i might be sold on the Epox 8k7A.

I believe it should be compatible with all the stuff I listed in the first post. Checked Crucial, and they suggest the same RAM that I had for the Asus mobo. AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.33 ghz 266mhz FSB I think should work too, or am I all wrong on this?

Again, thanks a lot.

Very stable and runs great with 2 60gxp 40 gigs stripped

Thanks

I just purchased this one last night from Bunta.com

I think my Netgear is a FA310 (I hope!) - otherwise it'll be the old NIC shuffle at my house (4 different 10/100 cards).

I'm trusting yall on this one - normally I'd get an MSI, ASUS or ABIT (The IWILL was 1st on my list for KT133A chipset) - but this EPoX has a lot of "common" backing (not reviewers, but posters like you & I).

I'll be sure to let yall know if I have any problems. :D
