How do you know what you get in city driving vs. highway driving? Do you keep detailed logs or something?

I gave a number I've actually experienced in my car, calculated. I'm hoping to keep track of it for the next month and get a more accurate average though.

What are you driving that gets 57mpg? I want one.

Why not? Your prius experience isn't going to smoothly?

No, the car is fine. It's just that most ATOTers mock me for driving a Prius.

@ 57mpg I'm mighty tempted too. Except my car was like $12,000 new. 🙂

It'll take quite a bit of driving to eat up the difference, but if I had planned on spending $30k on a car anyway, then the Prius is a great option.

I get around 20-25 city driving on my 02 Buick Century. The car used to be my mom's and she said she got about 30 highway driving. I haven't gotten that but the only highway driving I've done I had 3 people and luggage in the car.

26-28 mpg, 1992 Honda Accord.

And nearly half the time I'm going 80-85 on a highway. Suck it down ....people that go 60 mph and hold everyone up in a lame attempt to save a buck/week.

Around 29-30MPG overall, although I do very little city driving.

2004 Acura TSX.

Debating getting an Acura TL or the new Lexus IS. Nice to know the TL is still pretty stingy on gas.

93 Camry. I get about 27-28. 80% highway driving.

GF gets about 33 last I checked in her 06 corolla, 70% highway since we use it to run errands. Figure its a little higher now that its out of its breakin period.

38 mpg with a 1996 Volkswagen jetta and its pretty much the same in the city and the highway since I drive like there is a 20 pound weight on my right foot.

Minimum of 25mpg and a Maximum of 30mpg in mixed driving conditions.
2004 Subaru impreza 2.5

my '02 civic gets around 350-400 miles from full tank to low fuel light. fuel tank is 13.2 gallons... but i can still get like 60 miles after the light comes on... so i'd say 30-35 mpg.

oh yeah and that's city+rural driving, no highway.

do you know how to check mpg?

Hit the odometer tripmeter reset when you fill up. Then take note of how many gallons you use on the next refill and do the math. Repeat a few times for accuracy.

Btw, 2001 Crown Victoria, like 18 mpg.. which seems low to me.. i got a lot higher mpg in my 1995 and 1996 crown vics.

yeah the 350-400 miles are odometer readings from filling up at gas station till the low fuel light comes on.

~29-30 on my 96 Maxima on highway/freeway driving at ~65-70. At ~80-85, mileage drops down to ~27. so with the increased gas prices, i drive ~65-70 lately. I have heard that slowing down to ~55 increases mileage even more but thats just too slow 😉

I calculate the mileage each time I fill up the gas tank...so these numbers are pretty acurate.

My mom gets 16mpg (city) in our 2005 Nissan Quest
I get 19-20mpg (city) when I drive it.
It gets 24-25mpg on the highway.

I don't know about our other cars, but it shows how different driving styles can save you some gas money 🙂
