What kind of memory should I put in my T40?

The 512MB crucial modules have been having problems with the T40's lately.
the 256MB crucial modules are ok though.

I think for anything over 512MB you might want to go with something made by IBM, so it's tested and certified and guaranteed to work with your thinkpad.

Most of the time IBM sodimm's use hynix or samsung chips, I not sure who makes the PCB's though...
But yeah, IBM branded SODIMM's would be your best choice, except for the crazy prices.

it's good to know to stay away from the crucial 512. That's what I was planning to use for my newly ordered t40.

Does memtest86 show any problems, or do they just cause problems?

I ran PC Doctor and all the memory test when I had the crucial 512K and it passed fine. yet,
I was just having problems mostly application crashes and sometimes complete windows crash
about once a week.

After taking out fine for 3 weeks and I did have 1 crash, but none since. So hard to be 100%
absolute on this, but the frequency of crashed is gone.

one thin crucial did pass on was to mak sure you increase(double) the amount of virtual ram
you allocate when you add memory and reboot.
