I'm not fighting, but in my triathlon training I had to go with a short haircut so that I could stay cool in TX summer heat.

clipper size 3 on the side
clipper size 4 on the top
bulk thinned out

It's low maintenance and doesn't look too bad either.

Fairly long buzzcut. I went from long hair to a buzzcut and haven't looked back.
