What kind of geeky stuff do you have on your desk at work?

personalizing cubicals are stupid. I don't believe in it. why personalize something and have the likelihood of becoming attached to it? I feel companies treat people using concrete metrics.. its a business... I feel I should treat the company the same way. Its not my "home", etc..

Also, personally, when I feel the need to leave a company. I don't want to take any more time than necessary to leave... having stuff would slow me down.

Another thing, I don't like to wear the company's badge. Every single day, I walk to my cubical and see people wearing their badges on their hip or around their necks.. I think they look like slave monkeys... I put my badge inside my pocket... no one sees... whenever, I have my badge sticking out on my hip, I feel like I'm being branded or something..


Maybe its just me!!! Looking arround my desk, I bet I can leave right now without taking anything (except my messenger bag .. in a few seconds, if I decided I want to quit, I could literally be out the door

I have a bamboo plant, an mp3 player with a speaker docking station.
I also have some pictures of my girlfriend and I, a portable fan, a bunch of office accessories. I plan on putting more things in here though...possibly a Baltimore Ravens calendar and a dry erase board.

Not really. The only thing I'd get are "distractors" that I'd use when I start getting bored (sit me in front of a document and I'll fall asleep from boredom So little thought process going on with a document). Last thing I need is proof of nefing it up . People used to complain that I never decorated my dorm room at college either... my walls were completely barren.

In my employee hand book they said the same thing... dude, like I care... ... so yea... fighting he man!!!! he's going down!!! hahahaha... to be honest, I think I'm the only one in my company that doesn't wear his badge... its a fortune 500 company (it could be fortune 100.. not sure).... i still need to have it though to open doors and shiet like that... :-( I guess you cannot win them all, but its close enough for me

I don't see how it's a big deal... if you wanna feel better, just turn it around . I used to have mine on a "draw-string" like system... I always tugged at it while walking... but it broke .

Maybe its just me. I'm not a conformist. It just feels weird to me. Cows have brandings on their body. Products in a grocery store have price tags. Cars have window stickers. The borg have serial numbers.. so do the Clyons To me, wearing a tag of any sort seems like an entity is trying to own me.

My desk is not full of personal belongings.. It is very spartan. "Spartan" is a word derived from the word "Sparta". In Sparta there is no slaves!!!! Ergo, it is madness to think otherwise...

Spartans do not have "bubble head" dolls... or swingline staples... or far side day calendars... or other nerdy toys... if they did, they would commit suicide and have their wives or girl friends carry their dead body on their shields from work back home...
