What Kind of Functions does a Bios Contain

Building a new rig (Neo2 Plat, A64 3500+) and will need to update the bios on the MoBo on the first boot. I assume the base bios that is flashed to the board will let me use a Win XP boot disk to start the machine so that I can flash the bios via the floppy before installing the OS?

Bios can do this "easy" floppy read, right?

Yes, boot support for floppy has existed since the first IBM PC. It's only in the last couple of years that you can flash a BIOS or install an OS without using a boot floppy, but floppy support is still there.

Thanks. So... does this mean I can do as I propose to do with a boot floppy? Once I get black screen with a blinking cursor then just run the new bios .exe right?
