What kind of fridge is best? POLL

We have a side by side now and the freezer is kind of a pain...it is a big fridge also, about 25cu ft amana.

My father says they are a waste... You definately struggle getting widers objects into them.

Comments on why are good and what brand you have.

Viking fridge and freezer. You'll need about 9 feet in width for both, they're about 4.5 feet wide each if i recall. 😛 the commercial fridges are even bigger.

I would go with a bottom freezer... think about how often you get stuff out of the freezer vs the fridge. It makes more sense to have the box you use the most at a higher level so you don't do as much bending over.

From a heat standpoint, it is best to keep the coldest air at the bottom, though good insulation makes this argument pointless.

Bottom freezer is nice. We bought one three or four years ago. Stuff is at eye level for the portion used the most. We do have a separate freezer out in the garage.

I just bought mine a few months ago from Sears. It's a 26 cubic foot Kennmore. It's side by side with filtered water and ice maker in the door. I used to prefer top freezer models because I'm more into simplicity than anything.

Bottom freezers are nice in some ways because not everyone uses their freezer that much. The prob with these models is that most of them have ice makers installed at the top of the freezer. What this means is when you open the freezer door/drawer, the refridgerator door actually gets in your way and it's harder to access what you need.

side to side. the fridge room sucks, but only side to sides have ice and water dispensers usually. i refuse to use ice cube trays

that's the only reason I would like a side by side... otherwise it's just not wide enough for the fridge part.

I agree with you, I hate ice cube trays too. Our fridge does not have one, so I just buy bagged ice.

I prefer the standard top Freezer. My main complaint about the bottom freezer is it's a drawer so unless you get one with sliding tray and such, you have to take out everything that's on Top in order to get to the things that are on the Bottom. Same beef with stand alone Chest Freezers. I don't like side by sides because each half is so skinny. The only thing I like about side-by-sides is the built in water/ice dispensers.

It's much easier to get stuff out of a top-freezer than a bottom-freezer. And bottom-freezers usually come with really flimsy baskets. And I would recommend a side-by-side of at least 42-inches in width. Anything less and you will have virtually no freezer space.

Bottom freezer would be cool. Keeps the fridge at eye level. The only bottom freezer I've seen had a freezer like a giant drawer- that was cool, because it kept it's cold air when you opened it.

Side-by-sides suck: poor space utilization, no freezer width for pizzas, etc. I ought to know, I have one. And . . . for all you who love your stupid water and ice dispensers, I have two questions:

1.) Just what IS it about the taste of aluminum that you like so much?

2.) Hey, you wouldn't be the same guys who buy bottled water all the time because untreated tap water is so declasse now, would you?

OK, I guess if you're big breeders who never pull out in time and so have tons of rug rats, the convenience of an untreated, aluminum tinged water supply says "I wub my wittle wons" in ways we determined users of modern birth control just can't understand.

Just don't go ostentasiously buying that dollar bottle of plastic encased Polack Springs at your local WaWa or 7/11, k? 😉

We bought a sears top freezer. I hate side by sides, waste too much space. Ours has a filtered water dispenser, open the door, it's right there.

I wish you could buy one that was fridge only, but they haven't made those in years because of some stupid regulation requiring a freezer. (I forget which states have that.) I would much prefer a large freezer in the basement or something like that.
