What kind of fan does a Dell Dimension 3000 take?

I think it just takes one, for the CPU exhaust vent. Anyone know the size and connector type? TIA.

Two technically. One in the PSU and one in the CPU exhaust hood. They usually use an odd-ball size of 90mm (that's in the Dimension 4800's - not sure about the 3000).

The problem is that Dells use a custom 4 pin fan mobo connector. Not a problem IF the mobo will POST without the fan being connected (you can connect fan to a regular HDD power connector and at worst the computer may give you a "low fan speed" warning on boot). However I do know that the higher end systems (4800 for instand) won't boot at all if they don't detect a fan.

You should probably try to find the proper replacement. They sell system pulls here: http://www.pcsurplusonline.com/viewprod.cfm?ID=5834

Never ordered from them though. I order replacements for clients directly from Dell.

Do a Google search - there are plenty of places that sell them.
