Downtown in a big city. I love walking everywhere, can't wait to get rid of the car and would be a happy camper if I only ever rode the subway for the rest of my life.

Urban. I can take cities, and I can take country, but I'd go apeshit in the suburbs.

I grew up in Ohio farmlands - hated it. silly Mennonite relatives & neighbors. Okay for them but not for me. Moved to NYC for college. It was okay but I burned out on it. Cities can be intense. Then kids came along - bought big suburban house Not bad - I have some great friends out here. Then got divorced - he got the house (long story). Moved w\my kids to cheap apartment in suburbia, had to move last summer, creepy landlord. Moved to condo in much more expensive & nicer suburb. Really like it here. Neighbors are nearby but they're quiet and nice. Lots of trees & animal life here

When I'm driving I notice two nice golf courses within a mile of my house, well kept yards and clean streets. When I'm walking I see abandoned stores, graffitti, and homeless people hanging out.

The city leaders like to brag about diversity and I have to admit- there is a lot to see that isn't seen from the interior of a car.

rural
a neighborhood of about 15 homes carved out of farmland
so a small group of homes on 3-15 acres lots surrounded by more rural land/farms
nearest small town is 10 miles, nearest small city is 15 miles, nearest big city is 50 miles

Hehe, my mom grew up in warrensburg, I've been a few times, not an area I would really choose to live, but to each his own.

urban

if my city were picked up and moved anywhere else in the country (that's not in the shadow of NYC), it'd probably be ultra urban.

that is 'under a bridge' option

That's a mansion. Even has a courtyard and they own several expensive vehicles! :D

For where I live, I'd say it's probably considered suburban. Decent amount of houses but not super packed, no commercial/industrial places or apartment buildings. There's a school yard in front of my property as well.

I live on Guam...I'm not sure it fits any of those categories. It's crowded as hell on the North end and sort of rural on the South end. Some of it is beautiful and some is downright third world. I have a good paying job here that makes staying here worth it for now. I have no intentions of staying here long term. Overall it's been a good experience.

It's the land of perpetual summer nuts.

military?

i would love to live in a place like that for a while, and i've looked, but i've never been able to find any jobs in my field (software dev) where they panned out. talked to quite a few people from Hawaii about opportunities, but again, were just dead ends.

I'm in a suburban subdivision right on the edge of a metro area. Pretty much anything further away would be rural.

I'm...sub-rural?

I'm 15 miles away from the city. Completely surrounded by farm ground. On well and septic systems. But it's a 50+ house subdivision with 1-2 acre lots..but we have 10mb cable connections, HDTV service, and natural gas connections.

Totally rural.
Nearest neighbor is nearly 1 mile away. (Though there is an abandoned farm adjacent to me, no one lives there.)
My driveway is 7/10 mi. long.
5 miles from the nearest small town, 10 to the nearest shoppable city, and about 40 miles from the second largest city in the state.
