Recently got a Plextor PX-716, and looking for either 8x or 16x media.
Not sure if I should buy dvd-r or dvd+r
Heard the +r burn faster and work better in sony dvd plays (stand alone)

As far as brand, I am trying out some TDK 8x dvd-r right now and they seem to be "ok"

I use Taiyo Yuden 8x+R on my Plex 712SA, and they work great. Seems Fuji Made In Japan discs are these as well.

I use DVD+R exclusively on my Lite-on 8x burner because of the bitsetting capability of +R.

+r will not play in any Toshiba unit that I've tried....I just bought a new player rather than switch to -r.

You can read a lot of information on the different formats over at the afterdawn.com forums.

Edit: I've been very happy with the Ritek media I've used.

I used to buy HP brand only but now i've been using Ritek Ridatas also. I usually buy 4X discs that burn at 8X to save $$$. At work we have memorex and some generic and they work fine too. The hard part now is organizing the discs :)

Ritek is the way to go. Works well in both of my Plextors, 708A and 712A.
The -R format is compatable in more DVD players than the +R. Your owners
manuel that came with your DVD player will state what type it will play.
