Made like what a solid block of aluminum? Its just a block showing the aproximate dimensions of the reference cooler for the socket. Its not actually a cooler.

It's just a box showing the clearance area around the Nehalem socket that the motherboard manufacturers need to comply with :p. If it were made into a heatsink, it'd be a pretty bad one - not much surface area to it, considering it's just a solid block.

I think it's funny they needed to label which side faces the memory... I mean it's a freaking box why the heck would it matter?

It is a box, but maybe it is not concentric with whatever is underneath - maybe offset one way or the other.

Well it could actually be a very good cooler depending on how the layout inside of it was. If it was just a solid block, then it would be horrible but if it was hollow with aluminum fins and a fan then it might actually be somewhat good.

you never know what's under there. it's a black box so for all you know they could have the world's best cooler in there that nobody knows about.
i'm not saying they do, just that it's a "black box" so you can't say for sure what's underneath the surface.
